Morning.
Today is Monday, August 8th.
On this day in 1866 - African-American explorer Matthew A. Henson was born. Henson, along with Robert Peary and their Eskimo guide, were the first people to reach the North Pole.
1876 - Thomas Edison received a patent for the mimeograph. The mimeograph was a "method of preparing autographic stencils for printing."
1899 - The refrigerator was patented by A.T. Marshall.
1911 - The number of representatives in the U.S. House of Representatives was established at 435. There was one member of Congress for every 211,877 residents.
1940 - The German Luftwaffe began a series of daylight air raids on Great Britain.
1942 - Six **** saboteurs were executed in Washington after conviction. Two others were cooperative and received life in prison.
1945 - During World War II, the Soviet Union declared war on Japan.
1974 - U.S. President Nixon announced that he would resign the following day.
1989 - The space shuttle Columbia took off from Cape Canaveral, FL. The trip was said to be a secret five-day military mission.
1990 - American forces began positioning in Saudia Arabia.
1993 - Four U.S. soldiers were killed in Somalia when a land mine detonated underneath their vehicle.
1995 - Saddam Hussein's two eldest daughters, their husbands, and several senior army officers defected.
2000 - The submarine H.L. Hunley was raised from ocean bottom after 136 years. The sub had been lost during an attack on the U.S.S. Housatonic in 1864. The Hunley was the first submarine in history to sink a warship.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
If all the world is a stage, where is the audience sitting?

Bought another truck to replace Clifford (the 01 model that DIL totaled). Got an '07 SLT Big Horn 3500 four door long bed. 5.9 w/6 speed. Local truck. 70K miles. Well maintained. ~80% highway miles pulling a 2 horse trailer. Anything I need to know and or look out for on the 3rd (?) generation?
Later,
Shortround out

Shortround out
I'd pay a dollar to see that.
Morning gang. Just got on line at my sister's for a minute to say hey. When I get back home I've got a picture or two to share. Scott, you'll get a kick out of one of them. Scary!

No, he's too PW to come out and play. I got a pic of a truck with a bobcat trailer behind it. I took a pic of the tongue of the trailer and you can see through it, horizontally. I'm betting I could actually stick my hand halfway though the hole, stupid rust.

Mornin Yall
Happy Monday. . . I think
Total, be careful out there.
I would like to add to todays trivia, which BTW has some interesting stuff. BTW tomorrow is Nagasacki (SP) day
Here’s an interesting side bar. After the Japanese
decimated our fleet in Pearl Harbor Dec 7, 1941, they could have sent their troop ships and carriers directly to California to finish what they started. The prediction from our Chief of Staff was we would not be able to stop a massive invasion until they reached the Mississippi River .
So, why did they not invade?
After the war, the remaining Japanese generals and
admirals were asked that question. Their answer…... they know that almost every home had guns and the Americans knew how to use them.
The world's largest army... America's hunters! I had never thought about this....
A blogger added up the deer license sales in just a handful of states and arrived at a striking conclusion:
There were over 600,000 hunters this season in the state of Wisconsin ..
Allow me to restate that number.
Over the last several months, Wisconsin 's hunters became the eighth largest army in the world.
More men under arms than in Iran ..
More than in France and Germany combined.
These men deployed to the woods of a single American state to hunt with firearms, and no one was killed.
That number pales in comparison to the 750,000 who hunted the woods of Pennsylvania and Michigan 's 700,000 hunters, all of whom have now returned home.
Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia and it literally establishes the fact that the hunters of those four states alone would comprise the largest army in the world.
The point?
America will forever be safe from foreign invasion with that kind of home-grown firepower.
Hunting -- it's not just a way to fill the freezer. It's a
matter of national security.

Staying home and trying to recoup today - - came home so beat up from the heat. I am not used to working out in the hot weather - - takes its toll. Soooo, relax and catch up around this house today.
OK, going for more ph00 - - - have a good one.
Bobby

Fiver BoBo! rest working man, rest! let the work belt dry out....lol
thinking of you, about to head into town for iced mocha. ahhhhhh
either pic is unsettling. rather have you guys back to posting "pin up" girls...
ready to go cut wood but steamy heat here has hubby hiding in the barn, where it is cool and less humidity.
getting out thunked by a huge racoon. may have to just sit and shoot. yup, time to go tactical.....
snacking on smoked red salmon, smoked venison and avocados California style (eat like a grapefruit right outta the skin, with a touch of red wine vinegar). mmmm it'll probably end up as something I can't eat. pass the wood pellets please.
stupid instruction manual for riding lawn mower costs more than i paid for the mower. ebay gives me a headache.
Bark, told my hubby of your auction experience, he had a good belly laugh at having the kids do deliveries....

My Sister, Brother and I went our separate ways for a few years without talking or seeing each other. Wasn’t intentional, just I was in the Army and they were doing their own things. We don’t see each other too often but gab on the phone once a week. When we do get together it is great.
What?? Thought I heard somebody calling me..
Yeah, I haven’t let myself go like some people.
Parents had two big avocado trees (male and female) that had been producing for over 20 years. Last year no fruit. Despite all efforts, this year you can tell they are dying Love fried, bbq'd or anything avocado.
