Years ago, on I-5 a semi lost a wheel, it jumped the jersy barrier, missed me in the work van and bounced off a couple of other vehicles. As far a I know no one was injured. Lucky.

Maybe not safety wire, but at least make sure lock pins are installed.

I had to dodge a flying shovel last week on 31W near Louisville. It fell off the ladder rack of an oncoming pickup. Another oncoming car hit it and flung it into my lane. Just missed a idiot on a crotch rocket who was passing me. (he was about 75-80 in a 45 zone)

Still amazed that no one got hurt with that one.

I had a Bott's Dot fly up in front of me hit the cowl in front of the windshied and scratch it. Also while passing a trailer on a bridge the landing gear foot fell off and slid under the left rear boogie. Took out all four tires. Driver did a devil of a job but kept it upright.

Worst accident I ever saw was when I used to live in Los Angeles. A flatbed semi was hauling a forklift. As the truck was going over a freeway loop overpass, the forklift broke loose from the truck and went through the railing, falling about 50 feet onto a car below. The car was no more than 6 inches tall. Luckily, I didn't see it happen. I only had to drive by the aftermath.

I was on I-675 in Dayton a couple months ago and saw a 5 axle dumptruck on the side of the road in the opposite direction missing a wheel. went over the hill to see a traffic jam that was caused when the wheel crossed the median and planted itself in the windshield of a sedan. They were dragging the car onto a flatbed with the wheel still in the windshield as I went by......

after reading what happened to that woman, guess i can consider myself lucky
about 5 years ago I was heading north on 55 with a friend and his boy in a sebring conv...A car in front of me hit a piece of plywood (about a foot square). I saw it coming, didn't have much time but closed my eyes and leaned down. It hit the windshield directly in front of me..cracked it pretty good but no loose glass

Obviously the driver was conscientious enough to request it be repaired at least 4 times using procedure. It's a shame it didn't get fixed before it killed someone.
A real tragedy times two. Now it will surely involve the courts for months to come.
