BAD 7.3 PSD fuel leak.

Goin down the road today in one of the companys 7.3 Power stroke. I noticed the fuel gauge was going down pretty fast. So I pulled over in a Burger King parkin lot to make sure nothin was leakin. Well when I stopped I could smell diesel fuel, bad. Got out and sure enough spot of diesel fuel about the size of a basket ball and just drainin down the back of the engine...

The truck ran perfectly fine, too. I fired it back up and headed for a buds house where we could pull it in his shop and take a look-see at it. By time I got to his house (Total of 2.9 miles) I went through about a 1/4 tank of fuel.!!!

Turned out that it was the fuel line going from the fuel filter bowl to the back of the passenger side head. (Return line or feed line???) Im not sure of. The line was about 50USD from ford and a fairly easy fix. The clamp which holds it to the head about half way down the line wore a pretty decent size hole in the line itself.

Anyone else who has any 7.3's around have this problem??

That was the supply line to the injectors on that side, I would not call it common, but not unheard of either, I am surprised the engine did not stumble and run rough, any way good catch.

I had the same thing happen 2 days ago on my 02 Super duty.
Ford charged me $500 bucks to fix it and the tow bill was $400.

You got shafted for sure. I would be asking some serious questions as to why they charged you that much. I have had those fuel lines made up by my local hydraulic supply house, changed out both sides, for less than 100 bucks, of course their was no labor charge because it was on our equipment.

Good luck.
