Back from MagnaPort

I got my S&W 342 back from MagnaPort this week. At 12 oz. these little monsters are downright painful to shoot. The worst part about it is the way the bottom of the trigger guard smacks the first joint of your trigger finger. The porting really tames that down. I wouldn't say it is comfortable to shoot, but it's not sharply painful anymore.

I'll stick with my 21oz .45ACP

Not much fun having your fingers chewed off by the trigger guard.

From my understanding you want to stay with the +P loads as that lets the MagnaPorting do its job.

Oh, it's worse than that, it's a .357 magnum.

Very nice to carry, not so nice to shoot. I do most of my practice with a 649 (stainless steel but same size), and most of the ammo fired out of the 342 is downloaded to .38 spl. specs. I only shoot one cylinder of full power .357 out of it in a range session.

The ammo I carry is Remington Express 125 gr. SJHP. When I got the gun, I tried every factory 125 grain hollowpoint round available. The Remington Express was the only ammo I found that showed no signs of the bullet pulling after 4 rounds were fired.

Nice Dave. The magnaporting help tame hot loads. The Boss Unit's father had a Colt Officers model in .45 that was a bear with 185gr +P loads until he got it magnaported. Keith

Magnaporting is nice but I have no problems with the Glock 36 230 grain .45s, it's actually fun to shoot..
