Attn: Computer guru's...

What makes some of the videos that I look at on my computer become all distorted and screwed up looking ? Is there a speed setting or something that I need to set to fix this ? I currently have broadband DSL.

Some video clips are just fine but for example, I was trying to look at a clip of a diesel dragster .. and it was a complete blur although I could hear the audio.

That is the one that pops up most of the time.

Hmm ive never heard of that happening on windows media...have you tried to upgrade to the newest version if you dont have the newest? The only thing i can think of is that it doesnt have the right "codec" which is kind of an upgrade file that will decode the movie file better. Either that or the movie was recorded so small that when its resized to a good viewing size, its real distorted. Try Divx player if nothing else works, i believe you can get it for free from www.divx.com.

I'm going to say it's the speed of the host video not your DSL connection or Media Player. Alot of the websites have slow upload speeds. Try to right click the video link, save as to your desktop or somewhere on your computer and then play. It should play fine then, if not then you can start playing with different settings and or media players.

it could be the quality of the video that you are trying to view as well, if it happens to all of them, then that is not the case. depends a bit on how popular the video is, the first few days of a video getting linked to is likely to net a lot of viewers, server end demand gets high, performance drops. but as mentioned, if you save it and then view it when it is all done d loading it will be as good as you can get it. Unless you are trying to view a video that was meant to be only 1/8th of your screen and then watch it in full screen mode, not enough info to fill in all the page and then you get chopy / blocky video.

i had the same problem. Go into options within the player and move the slidebar for video acceleration all the way down. Turns out that i have a good cpu but a crappy video card.. good luck!

one more idea,
reduce the size of the video screen. it may be that the screen is too big and it is getting pixelated. right click the video while it is playing and reduce the size. jm .02

That seems to be the trick. Plus, like was pointed out earlier ... some of the videos aren't the best quality to begin with.
