The boy has now been on patrol for two days now, and both have proved interesting for a rookie. The first night, they went to the scene where a woman was hit while trying to cross a highway on foot. Needless to say, it was not a pretty sight. Last night they got a call on three guys riding 4 wheelers on private property. Of course they were drunk. It was dark, but when they started hand cuffing them, Richard recognized one of them that he had delt with at the jail before. He said he was just as loud and obnoxious being arrested as he was at the jail.

Sorry guys....he's keeping the Sig. He likes the feel and accuracy and wants to hang on to it for now. So, being the nice guy that I am, I bought him a new duty belt, baton, batteries and a few other things for the new belt. We're looking for new high cap mags now. Sigs are pretty high $$$, but I don't think that's a place to cut corners.

Anyway, it's nice seeing him do something I always wanted to do. The pay is not bad now, but back in the day, I couldn't see $600/mth paying for my fast cars and bad habits.

Glad to hear things are working out for him so far, tell him to keep on his toes, that job can be a killer. I lost a good friend to a drunk one night, that grabbed a fire extinguisher off a wall as he was escorting him into jail.

He pounded his skull flat like a pancake before anyone could get through the locked door to help him. You just never know when a guy has more on his mind than the simple arrest you may be making at the time.

Good point. At least for now, and by nature, he is nervous and untrusting of anyone. In his 2 1/2 years at the jail, he learned how fast a persons attitude could change. That's one thing we all keep telling him....don't trust anyone.

A little update:

Things are going well for the SIL. Last Tue night (3:00AM) he got to be the lead car on a high speed chase. He went to stop a car for reckless driving and the guy ran. The chase stayed on the highway and service roads in a mostly rural area. He was backed up by two local PD's, one of which spiked the guys tires. Not only was the guy drunk, he was also stupid enough to fight after they got him stopped! After being slammed to the ground, bitten three time by a police dog and getting tasered in the rear, he decided to go to jail peaceably.

SIL was complimented on his performance and will be given a copy of the dash cam tape of his first high speed pursuit.

But don't worry the best patrol guys come from the jail, they know most the bad guys already and they learn to keep thier heads on a swival.

Good for you! SIL was very tempted to take the strip and stay at the jail, but took what he was after in the first place.

Glad to hear it, it takes alot to stay on course in the enforcment field. To many things to do and see and play with. He should step up to a .40 or .45 although 9's are fun to play with the .40's and .45's just have the right stuff.
Just make sure he does'nt use to heavy a bullet in the .40. Are 180 grns where just pumpin holes through the perp's. My angency went to a 165 grn slug they work much better.

I'm still thinking I may get him a .40 and take the 9mm back. That little Sig is sure fun to play with. You're right, shooting a .45 at close range is like hunting jack rabbits with a 7mm mag.

Thanks Davey, I'll pass the congrats on.

It takes a special type person to be a LEO, fire fighter and career military.
