Atta Boy Richard! New LEO!
Well, not exactly new. My SIL has been on the SO, of a county adjoining Dallas county, working as a Detention Officer for a little over two years. My daughter called today and said he has been promoted to patrol officer! I guess he's doing something right, as he had been told that he pretty much already had a Sgt job at the jail. Since he was a kid, patrol is what he always wanted.
For all of you young folks out there that are thinking of being a LEO, evidently, Richard took the right track. First, he had some college and plans to go back. Next, my wife volunteered to pay his way through the academy before he ever applied for a job. No doubt, they really had to skimp for awhile. Having been to the academy and getting state certified quickly has made a lot of difference.
I gave him have my Sig 226 when he graduated from the academy, but will now probably upgrade him to a 40 or 45 cal since he'll be on the street. After all, I have my daughter and granddaughter to think about and daddy needs more fire power.
Sorry for the rant, but I'm just glad to see him fulfilling a life long dream.

I already had it all planned out too, I was going to tear it down and bead blast it and then polish just the sides of the slide to a 700 grit finish. I was then going to run it through the Hot tanks at a little warmer temp then normal and then quick drench it in a vat of ice water, then back to the bluing tanks several times.
That gives me a really deep almost "see a mile" deep blue finish. Then I was going to inlay the lettering with 24 kt gold and give it to my Nephew......
You realize now how unhappy he is going to be with you?

Sounds like you and your wife have been a real encouragement and help to him. Must be very gratifying to have a son in law like that. Congratulations to him and you and your wife too.

Chris,
I'm sorry, but the 226 had been down here where it's warm for so long, it doesn't want to go north where it's cold. Hmmm....sounds like me!
nelrod, thanks for the kind words.
We've had our ups and downs, but overall he's a pretty good guy. He's good to my daughter and granddaughter so we don't mind helping him out.

Charlie, Tell him Congrats from all of us here at N. TX DTR!
If he ever gets bored up here in Collin Co., I know another larger agency that is hiring like crazy right now. I think there are 4 classes going right now with a new one starting about every 2 months or so. Paid while you attend.
Ohh.....and feel free to let me hang on to that 226 for ya too.

Glad to here about the promotion, thanks for shareing! A couple other gift suggestions for Christmas would be a stinger or similar flashlight and spare cuffs... and long johns.. even in Texas probably.
