Asphalt sucks. Too soft. Gotta use plywood under jacks, oil dissolves it. Asphalt cracks too.

Asphalt and diesel. Sounds fun. I like asphalt alot better. Makes for a better drag strip. I've got several tire marks (and by several, I mean 6 or 7 10' long black marks) on my driveway. Looks like crap. Get asphalt.

A lot of these driveway guys show up with an itty-bitty toy roller and can't get it compressed enough. Mine's a 4" base with a 2" top and I selected a guy with a medium sized roller. But even after 3 years it still marks very easily. I've got divots all over the place from my floor and bottle jacks, and there are several locations where you can see front tire impressions from where I parked the Cummins overnight. I too now use plywood under everything. If you go with asphalt, I'd suggest you look at the contractor's equipment first. You can't beat a concrete driveway, but I know you reach a point where the price can't be justified.

Do none of you guys have a concrete floor in your garage?? That is where I do all my maintenance.

Garage(noun): 1. a secondary storage location for unused and broken household items; 2. a large room of a domicile reserved for male occupants, but often commandeered by the spouse for the storage of female type crafts, holiday decorations, ill-fitting clothing, etc. .....but it does have a concrete floor!

People always tell me I'm not normal. Now I know why. I actually park 2 vehicles in my garage along with all my tools. My wife does have her shelf for the gardening supplies tho.

My wife can HAVE the garage.

As long as I get the 40x100 shed/shop that I want.

(Gotta find a side job. Wonder if "Mechanics Monthly" needs an underwear model?)

My last house I had the two layer commercial job (asphalt) and poured a huge concrete apron in front of the garage. Best of both worlds.

Mine fits.

Only part of it at one time though.

The bed fits and the engine compartment fits. (can't raise hood though)

It's that dang cab in between the two that doesn't.

Oh, and it has a concrete floor.
