As you can see by the picture below, I can build up quite a pile of snow during the winter. The berm pictured below is nearly 5 feet tall. 2001 was the first season for my Ariens. It starts usually on the first pull unless it's below zero and has never failed me.

There is a guy locally that has a 2 year old $2000 Ariens for $1000. He is moving. It's still under warranty. I can't imagine I could get a better unit for the same price new or used. Any reason not to get it? It's the 11528 DLE Professional.

EDIT it could be a 11528 "LE" in which case it retails for about $1500 instead of $2000.

I would say 1k is about my upper upper limit and I probably DON'T need this monster, but I am definitely not in the market for cheesy powertools after that Home Depot leaf blower purchase.

The Ariens that I could buy for $1k new is: http://www.ariens.com/snow_products/...o_thros/824_e/

If you want the best buy a Honda. It's as simple as that.

My dad just bought a new ariens. Its pretty nice, however he has a nice JD garden tractor with a plow so I don't know why he needed the blower. He just wanted it I guess. I used it this weekend and I can tell you I would much rather sit on the tractor and push snow then wrestle with that blower. It worked pretty good and seems like a nice piece though.

I ended up getting a used 5hp Ariens from the local shop. They are going to fix it up and drop it by the house. I think it should be OK my needs.
