Anyone use Linux?

Just wondering who on here is using Linux on their computer? I just started using Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) on my backup desktop, figured i'd heard so much about it, why not try it, I am impressed and am in the process of really learning how to get the most out of it. Great fun for a geek like me. Also if you used a version of linux, which one is it?

I used to use Linux for hacking when I was younger, as that was the cool thing to do. Other than that, Linux isn't my personal preference. For an unexperienced computer user it would be a heck of a time for them to learn it

I always thought it was a little too technical, but with ubuntu you end up with a UI that is nearly equal to windows, runs faster, and is extremely easy to work with, I personally prefer it to windows for an older slower machine, but it does take a little bit of know how to work with.

I'm running gentoo- if you thought ubuntu was quick... try gentoo. Takes time to install, but you have a lot of control over your machine.

Just my 2c

Cool, I'm downloading a fedora live cd right now to give the KDE desktop a try and see how it works. Then I just might give gentoo a try also.

I've jsut started to tunker with it again... Running an Ubuntu version, have ran a Red Hat version in the past. I like it for the most part, definitely faster no question... But installing a wireless card is a PITA!! lol

I've been using various forms of it since around 1995 or so. At work it's all servers for database and applications, most of that stuff is either RedHat or SuSE. We use it at home also. My work has been 100% Linux programming for almost 8 years. I don't miss Windows at all.
