Anyone live in North East PA near I-80, NJ border?

Anyone live around there... Maybe Stroudsburg or Poconos or something?

My fiance and I were thinking about looking into the area to buy a house. NJ is too expensive for us and we want a little bit of land (not much, I just mean like 1 acre as opposed to 0.1 acres in NJ) but we want to be within an hour or so of our families.

I don't know much about the area... where is good where is not, etc.

I work from home on the computer so being near jobs is not important.

I don't live in PA, but Stroudsburg is only 17 miles from us going through the water gap.

Roger that on the prices, that and the taxes. There is a house across the street from me forsale, but its only on an acre, little ranch. Can't remember what they where asking.

The only thing I can suggest to you in PA is watch the taxes, they hit you with all these little taxes that can really add up. I do know that the Pocono school districts are in a heap of trouble because of the recent (within the last 6 years) population growth. And school taxes went up through the roof. I unfortunatly don't know much about the area.

problem with the 80 corridor is that everyone that cant affor d jersey looks there, driving that strip of lands prices up, then there is the traffic ya gotta get used to, There are a lot of awesome lots up around the pocono's , a lot of areas still have open lots, many even border state game land if that is of any interest......... but get used to " nothing", theres lots of that going on...... simple run to the store is a bit longer than you are used to......... another thing to look into is there inspection laws are quite different than ours.

I don't have any problem with NJ if it is more affordable. For reason I just have it in my mind that once you cross the PA border it'll get cheaper!

Not even looking for acres and acres, 1 is fine I'm sure, just would like more than the .1 you can get anywhere around here. We want to get a dog and want it to be able to run around a little! Any recommendations in your neck of the woods?

near me??? you gotta be joking........ I can't find anything I would considder buying for what they are asking around here...... shoot, I watched somebody pay 579k for a house I would gladly live in, then the wreckers came, knocked it down, and then they built a rediculously oversized for the neghborhood monster that would sell for gawd knows what. Problem I have been seeing is if I can afford the asking price, there is someone else that is offering 100k more than asking price shooting me right out of the deal.

Woops I am too slow on the reply. I meant near Belvidere where JD is.

Maybe we will take a little drive out today and check some of those areas out.

Mike, people are doing that all over the place with homes. Bulldozing nice houses and putting up these stupid big houses in their place.

Patrick, ever think about the Jersey shore? The houses there are not very expensive, good schools, stores are not too far away.....the list goes on. By shore I am referring to towns such as Toms River, Brick, Lacey, Pine Beach/Beachwood..... This is where I am looking to buy a house in the next few years. Not sure if you are interested in looking there, but it is just a thought.

Sorry about not replying earlier, my brother was having a graduation party and it was crazy here all day. Theres houses out here forsale, one across the street from me right now in fact (I can barely back my truck into the driveway and forget about getting out of it in the winter time), plus a couple of other in the area and in surrounding townships(you'll want to know what your taxes will be too and ours in white township are going to go up soon when the municipal tax rate is higher than 0).

Prices elude me at the moment, I would also ride across the Belvidere bridge and check out whats over there.

The purchase price between PA and NJ might be different, but I was talking to a co-worker that lives accross the river from us and after he added up all the taxes he pays, its very comparable to NJ taxes.
