To heal completely, probably a while. I'm going to go to work Monday and give it a try. Just moving a crane locally, should be back home Monday night. I can take off as much time as I like, just trying to avoid it.

I use a roll of paper towels to check the reverse safety setting as NJTMAN suggested in his post after setting it to a 2X4. It mimics the resistance of a child/dog/cat etc.
Also, when detached from the opener, you should be able to lift the door with two fingers and it should hang wherever it is when released, if the springs are properly adjusted....

People use that great reversing feature to burglarize the garages at our apartment complexes, as the tenant pulls out and the door is closing someone will toss a block of wood under the door to keep it from closing.
I think a properly adjusted safety beam works better.
We use current sensing relays on all of our sliding gates and they still put a good dent in your car when it catches you.
It is really sad that we have to stupid proof all of our equipment because there is no common sense any more.

Had the same issue with one of my door openers last week. It would hang up going down and then reverse. After re-aligning the track slightly, didn't cure it, I just adjusted the down force a little bit and no problems now.
