As for the actual Gauss, I have no idea. I haven't found any information of anybody whose ever tried this before. And how exactly is one supposed to measure Guass's or Tesla's or Weber's or Maxwell's?
It is measured with a DC Magnetometer or a GAUSSMETER .

You can purchase one or you can build one if the accuracy and certification is not important.
I think I have a link to a schematic to build one.

It's getting intresting now.

Ill bet that pulled a few nails from the fence..then pushed.. then melted..
Wonder if anyone knew about EMP back then and what kind of disturbance it caused to the FORCE.

I should be safe enough if I watch it from my house.
If I see my bones through my hands then Ill know I shouldnt have watched.

Does anyone besides me find it SCARY that you can easily buy thermite on EBAY?

That's an interesting thought about the molten metal being pulled along the magnetic field... Do arc welders make a magnetic field in the cord? I'm trying to figure out the best way to conduct electricity through it; it would be easy enough to use a power supply and two metal rods, but now you say DC volts cause a magnetism?

What do you think the best way would be to pass current through the thermite?

You can easily make thermite with nails and a battery. It's just rust and aluminum, not something restrictable. I don't really know how you could use it as a weapon. You could melt a hole in somebody's engine, other than that not too efficient at hurting anybody but yourself...

And no, ya'lls don't get dibs on The Incubator if I end up metal plated.

I dont know if you realized this or not but molten steel isnt magnetic. I work in a foundry and if you try to pick anything up with the big electromag before it has completely cooled and set up nothing happens.

Interesting......wonder why molten it is not magnetic but solid is. I'm assuming the way the particles are arranged.

How much power do you need for your experiments? I know where you can get all you need. Just get yourself a long pair of jumper cables and clip them on here.

I wonder if other people are amazed by the power of the electron the way I am.

I have always had a special interest in high voltage electricity and electronics and have been involved with them for almost 50 years now.
I have built a few 5000 volt and 10,000 volt Klystron power supplies back in my vacuum tube years and have been stung a few times.

Begle1, after looking at the links in Jim Lane's post I think this is right up your alley. Go for it!

Begle1, with all due disrespect,( I'm KIDDING") this is not a good thing for you to be playing with. Stick with your 1st plan and get a AMC Gremlin and put a CTD in it.

SOCAL has enough problems without you playing with thermite.

i remember learning how a old black smith tempered his tools. he used to tell me all you need to remember is magnets and biscuits. you heated the metel till it was white/red hot, and it was no longer magnetic, then quenched it. they you put it in a oven at 425 or so for a 1/2 hour to anneal it.
