Anybody ever play with thermite?

so the correct answer to the earlier poll by geico was he returned to pluto for a reunion, and the aliens put this into his head.
but anyway, welcome back. been too long

so begel i correct if i am wrong. During the thermite reaction you want to run electrical current through the molten metal. By your theory by doing this it will create a powerfull magnet

Wasn't it actually Thermite that brought down the Hindenburg back in the late 30's?
I remember reading it was the aluminized coating on the outside of the shell and the iron oxide on the inside that created the volatile mixture and not really the hydrogen like everyone was led to believe.
Those pictures are neat you would probably get in more trouble for having the det cord in your possession than the substance itself.
He will be the first person to build a magnet so strong it will create a small black hole and suck him through and then we will lose him for good.
How many gauss are you figuring this device would be creating by the way?
Jim

As for the actual Gauss, I have no idea. I haven't found any information of anybody whose ever tried this before. And how exactly is one supposed to measure Guass's or Tesla's or Weber's or Maxwell's?

Just a thought here, but if you used an underwater cutting rod, they are hollow and you run oxygen through them to sustain the burn underwater, it might produce enough heat by it's self to do the melt. I know, I know, I'm out of my area here. Just thinking out loud.

FeO2
Use water, a touch of salt a battery and steal wool. Rust very fast. Of course you know that if both the aluminium powder and the FeO2 are too finally ground and the reaction occurs in too many places at once, you will get a thermite explosion and not a kinder, gentler reaction as in the video. And another thing, AC welding was invented because the molten metal during the welding of large steal structures such as ships caused the metal to zip off along the lines of the magnetic field induced into the iron structure from the application of direct current. If your molten metal ends up traveling to a magnetic field, and you are in the way, you might find it difficult to post in the future. Other then that, film it.
