Any Schlumberger Maintenance Techs On Here?
As the title says, I'm wondering if there is anyone on here that is a Maintenance Tech with Schlumberger? More specifically an Electronics Tech?

Assuming you're a smart guy, hard worker, and willing to do the job, they are a good company. Field positions tend to be all over the world, you may be in Norway one month and Malaysia the next. depends on the job and where you're needed.
Location type jobs where your at a facility, they are big on cross training and allowing you to move to different jobs and move in responsibilities
As far as the company, I believe they are the biggest oil services company. thats a double edged sword tho because it give you growth opportunity, but at the price of big corporate structure. Nothing happens quickly and more things are structured.

I submitted my resume about two weeks ago and a recruiter emailed me to fill out the application. I submitted that yesterday and am now waiting for the telephone interview.
I am a hard worker and have a pretty strong mechanical/electrical and electronics background from being on Active Duty.
I have a couple Uncle's that work for them, one is a mud engineer and the other is a Principal Production Stimulation Engineer--which is how I found out about Schlumberger a few years ago. The window of opportunity opened to apply so I've been in contact with my uncle that is a PPS Engineer. He also said they are a great company with great benefits...another reason why I applied.
My Uncle said ETs are in high demand and the division he works for as well as a few others can't function without them. I'm interested in the field aspect of maintaining/repairing/servicing whats already in place and what needs to be installed and not being tied down to a chair...if that is possible...even if I can spend 50% of the time outdoors, it is a major plus.
The reason for the thread was in hopes of meeting someone in the similar field I am interested in and get an outside, non-family related perspective. I'm ready to settle down with my family and have a bit more stability while finishing my military career in the Reserves (current job doesn't deploy) and jump start what I have wanted to do for a very long time.
Thanks for responding Fronty.

I've been in the oil industry for just over 12 years now. Technology is mostly accepted, but there are still a few holdouts that want to drill like they always have.
The biggest thing I see with electronics (and electrical) is having to meet the zone classifications on surface equipment or having to handle downhole conditions for drilling tools.

I've been wanting to get on with a company for a very long time now. Life has kept me on active duty, but I'm ready for a change in pace, start with SLB or another company now and finish my last few years in the reserves. I'm still waiting to hear back from the SLB recruiter that emailed me. Hopefully I will know something within the next couple weeks.
Technology has definitely come a long way for the oil & gas industry and it doesn't look like it is going away anytime soon. I enjoy electronics and I especially have a high appreciation for the oil industry and look forward to the opportunity to start working in it.
I'll post up on my status with them once I hear back.
One of my Uncle's (that works for PPS) lives in OK. Maybe you've ran into him. Won't mention names on here for privacy reasons, but he deals a lot with the formula calculations for fracking as well as training.

Hey 6.7, I'm a Cementer for Halliburton in the Gulf of Mexico. I know we are needing E techs really bad. We are contracted to cover several new rigs being built and there are more coming from overseas as we speak. I've been with Halli for 8 years now and enjoy it for the most part. Been in the g.o.m for 7 months, was up in Williston N.d. for 2 1/2 years before transferring here. I know they are short handed up there too. I personally transferred out because I got sick of the weather.
As for Schlumberger being the largest service company I think Halli & Schlum are about the same. Pay wise also. Apply with Halli and Baker Hughes also. You should snapped up pretty quick. Good luck to you man.

Hi Kerry!
Thanks for the info! So far no word back from the SLB recruiter. My application is still showing "In Process" - maybe that means something. I just checked Halliburton's Veteran's job opening page and found an E-Tech position for Farmington, NM - where I'm from. I'm gonna get my application in and see where it goes from there. I'll check out Baker Hughes as well. Thanks again for pointing me towards these other companies.

I have a buddy working rotation out of Saudi right now. From what I'm hearing thru the grape vine is there are quite a few new semi-subs that are going to be finished in the next year or so. I would imagine everyone is going to be looking for mechanics, techs, and people to support the rigs and equipment on them.
I get contacted a few times a year for oil field positions from Bridgeline Inc recruiting. You might check them out on LinkedIn or online.
