My farrier came today. He said " I bet the seditive wore off in four hours. " He got a good laugh out of your experience.....call a qualified farrier. I pick up my horses hoofs on a daily basis. It's your responsability to provide the farrier with a willing patiet, level ground, shade if possible, and assistance restraining the horse.Be careful imprinting a foal....it can be done incorrectly.

I have seen several farriers and several horses being shod. Some horses were super sensitive to how they were shod, others were not. I had one horse that would come up lame if we didnt have the best farrier we could find. A sinlge nail in the wrong spot can ruin a horses day and if not treated, can ruin the horse.

Find a good farrier, but work with your horse as well. Just as in any other business, there are good, bad, amd great. You just have to find them.
