any coin people?

having trouble finding out what a coin is worth. its not just a reg. ole coin tho, it has some stampings on it. someone said they seen the stampings on a penny, but not on the coin i have. here is what i got:

1984 gold kennedy half dollar, on the head side, in the 3 O-clock position is stamped 1984. in the 9 O-clock position is stamped with a lincoln head. these stamps are deep and defined, cannot figure out why or if it has decreased the value or increased the value of the coin, or if they are even supposed to be there.

and for those of you wondering, YES it was in the cake!

I dunno my grandfather gave me a bunch of coins when he passed. He even has chunks of silver, and sterling silver bars from the franklin mint?? I dunno problably worth some money cause I know now adays your not supposed to have silver bars? I dunno, luckly it's next to my .44 mag, good luck getting it from me
I wish I could help you on the worth. Best bet is to find a book on coins, or maybe do a google search on coins cause you can find a lot on there.

How about a picture?

I'm thinking the stampings aren't "stock" and were added by someone trying out their new tools,
therefore the coin is worth 50 cents, maybe less.

Now if the stampings are a mint error, that increases the value exponentially.

For instance, the 50 cent piece fell into the penny stamper.

Picture of course, is worth a thousand words.

My great grandpa also left me a bunch of odd coins.
Lot of late 1800's vintage british coins, that according to the local coin shop,
aren't worth the metal they are made of.
I'm hoping the dude was lowballing me, and they really are worth something, but I'm in no hurry to find out, I figure the longer I hold on to them, the value will increase at least a little bit.

Definately someone just playing around with some metal punches.

As to the gold (or is that rust?) color, we did that in science class in high school,
turned dimes and nickles copper.

no, there are acctually gold plated half dollars, i had one coin guy tell me he had seen the stampings on a penny, but never anything else, and how would you get a detailed stamp of a lincoln head? and a nice small 1984 stamp for that matter? just seems funny to me, i dont really think it is worth any great amount, but it would be nice to know......

If you look in the back of tabloids, you'll see all kinds of adds from people calling themselves mints selling different decorated coins. Seems like I recall on from the back then, selling something like that, baseing it on anniversary's between kennedy and lincoln, and conspiracy theore's. My grandma and here sisters read all those, they make ok reading material when up to the lake on a rainy day.
