So far as I know the car is stock. I purchased it 3 years ago from the orginal owner and he stated that it was very quick for a stock car. The only thing i have done to it was to change out the computer and the wiring harness last year with orginal equipment and new paint and interior. Mice got into the car and chewed through the wires causing the computer to short out. I want to keep the car stock because it is worth a lot more money stock Vs modified. According to the VIN it was one of the last to have cast iron heads and out of the 36,000+ Corvettes built that year, only 2600 where painted dark metallic red. Right now the car only has 41,656 miles on it.
All I know is it is quick. Very quick. It's not as quick as the ZO-6 and my '96 Mustang GT, which is supposed to be pumping 20-30 more ponies, is not even close in comparison. Course I could have a sick pony.
In the late '70s the EPA and the NTSB was on GM (and Ford and Dodge)big time to cut the HP and to get better MPGs. That's the reason why the late '70 and very early '80s Corvettes (Mustangs included) were very, very sick and Corvette sells suffered the point that GM was considering axing the car. The C4 was to have been the answer to revive Corvette sells and was to be produced begining in 1983. However, due to start up problems and problems with the car itself, production of the C4 didn't start until 1984. Because of the those problems, there are no 1983 Corvettes. The third generation Corvette was a decade old when Dave McLellan began envisioning a redesigned next generation Corvette in 1978. Initially, it appeared his vision would become a reality in 1983, but various stumbling blocks delayed that debut, which would have been in the fall of 1982. Forty three pre production 1983 Corvette were built, none were released to the public, and only one still survives today. (Located in the National Corvette Museum) Chevrolet skipped over the 1983 model and introduced it’s next generation Corvette in 1984 with an extended production run.
I do enjoy mine to the point that at times it is hard to decide which to drive, the CTD or the vette. Both are way.

Go 4LO,
Good comments. Do you own a Vette? I have two. A '77 that I an working on for play and the '86 that I want to keep stock. You are right about drive train set up. At 60 MPH the engine is turning around 1400 RPM. Not sure what ratio the rear is cause I am still running numbers on it. In '86 you could only get an automatic w/overdirve in the vette.
opps, just looked and you could get an '86 with a manual. Sorry had to check the books .

No, no Vette....yet. I'd like a '95 ZR-1 eventually, couple years down the road. Of course, I'd really like a '69 ZL-1, but we all know that's not gonna happen LOL.
Cummins first, though. After I get my truck and pay it off, then I'll start looking at sports cars haha. I still am not 100% decided between a '95 ZR-1 or a '97-'98 Viper.

GO 4LO,
The big Corvette swap in PA is in August. Lots of Corvettes and lots of stuff for them there. You're not that far away and if you are interested I'll get the dates and send to you.
I know what you mean about the CTD first. Love mine and I get lots of looks when I tow the '86 behind it. The '77 is a total fixer-upper. Got it cheap but will cost to fix. I call it a "work in progress". The '86 was a steal. The guy was going through a wicked divorce and he didn't want his wife to take the car. He had tears in his eyes the day I loaded it on the trailer to take it home. He really loved that car and I can see why .

Sure, go ahead and send me the info if you don't mind. As long as it's not the same weekend as the Scheid Extravaganza, I might be able to make it .

I'll get the dates and PM you. Only thing is that there is so much stuff to see you could be there for days. I'll be up there with several vette buddies. The wife always gets cold feet when I go because she never knows what I'll drag home. Last year it was the '77. I think she is safe this year since I don't have anymore room in the garage .

I like the Vette along with you guys. I guess it started with my dad having a 67' 427 4spd. I liked that car alot. Especially the side pipes . He restored it to absolute mint/original condition, #s too. Red. Too bad he sold it Insurance forced the sale because of young guns turing 16 .
Just thought id share my corvette experiance.
Id love to own another just like the one he used to have.
One day, one day, gotta stay focused on the diesel now, not very hard to do now that ive got that dang Bomb bug.... -Jake

DZLPWR,
Hope your dad got a decent price for the '67 cause if all the numbers matched and he restored it as you said it would be worth a lot. About 2 -3 times what it sold for new. Last year at the swap at Carlisle, PA a '67 went through the auction and brought almost 100 grand. There was a '63 with the split back window there last year also. The owner NO-saled the car at $300,000. Guess he was looking for more money and he most likely will get it since the split back is so rare. The 427 was a good motor and very capable of putting out some serious HP. I'd love to get my hands on one for the '77 .
As I've said I love crusing in my '86. Most of the time I take it to shows since I've repainted and re-done the interior. Had to buy several books and read about how to work on the Tuned Port fuel injection system. After I got the hang of it I found that it would be real easy to get some serious ponies from it as well. But like I said before these cars are worth more money if you leave them stock. At least to a Corvette buff.
