Somehow I don't think that Vette will pull that boat.

Something is bound to go wrong, your at least in for a hassel. If you got stuck with the car, do you want to pay the high insurance for a 17 y.o. car ? If you still have the truck available when HE sells his, then it was meant to be.

High insurance for a 17 year old car? IMO, the C4 is kind of a worthless vette. Gutless and ugly. I wouldn't do the trade. Now if we were talking old stingray or C5, that would be a different story.

An '87-vintage 'Vette is what, somewhere around 250-270 hp, and around 300-320 lb ft? Not slow, by any means, and good by '87 standards, but not now. The LT1 (300 hp) started, I think,- '91 model year.

If I were going for a C4, I'd try to find an LT4-engined one - pretty rare though.

Personally, I wouldn't put a mid 80's vette in my garage. Keep your truck- you'll be glad you did.

I wouldn,t really call the C4 worthless or ugly since I own one. IMO the new Corvettes are ugly and from 2000 on up the engine is all aluminum. I have a stock '86 and just the other day while I had it out some yoo-yoo with a Dodge 1500 hemi wanted a piece of it. He kept riding my tail on a 4-lane highway. Heck one time I thought he was going to rear-end me. We came to a stop light and he pulled along side and stated that my piece of crap Corvette was in his way. Course that really made me and i told him that I didn't buy the car for racing. Well long story short, when the light turned green we both got it on. Poor sap was totally embarssed as I left him in his cloud of tire smoke. Funny thing is the ole vette never broke traction. I don't think he will try any more vettes anytime soon . I will say the the hemi can light up some tires.

Back in March I toured the Corvette assembly plant (and the Corvette museum) in Bowling Green. During the tour of the plant I asked the tour guide if the advertised HP and torque of the Corvette for those model years (83-90) was true. He told me not to believe what is printed and on average they should be putting out 1hp/cubic inche displacement. They only avertised the low HP rating to please the EPA since they were on GMs back to make the vette more fuel efficent. Also, GM made a deal with the EPA back in the '80s that for every Corvette sold that they would sell 10 Chevettes. That is how the vette survived the chopping block. All i can say is 0-60 in 4 seconds and it is a funny ride. Course I wouldn't trade my Dodge CTD for any Corvette...well maybe one. A 1963 with the split rear window. Then I'd sell it. The '63 with the split back window is worth a lot on money.

I know of a couple of guys with ZR-1's that might disagree with the 'gutless' comment .

You said your car is stock.

The published track times for an 1986 Corvette are as follows:

Coupe 0-60 5.8 seconds
1/4 mile 14.4 seconds

ZR1 0-60 4.7 seconds
1/4 mile 13.1

Horsepower can be approximated using a chart that has 1/4 mile ETs and the vehicle weight.

A 1986 Corvette coupe weighs 3239 pounds, runs the quarter in 14.4 seconds. The chart says that is between 210-215 flywheel horsepower which, of course, is higher than rear wheel horsepower.

Also remember formulas need to be modified slightly based on transmission, suspension, and axle setups. An IRS, stick vehicle won't get down the quarter as quick as an auto, modified suspension, solid rear car with the same power. The C4 is not one of the vehicles I've set up a formula for, unfortunately.
I'm not disagreeing with you on how fast the car is, though. I don't think any '80's Vette short of the Sledgehammer or one of the TT Callaway cars can do 0-60 in four flat. He may have meant 'in the 4's' though, in his post?
