I'll give the media a break the second they go back to objective and unbiased reporting. Until then, they can enjoy their stay in the cellar with the rest of the scum (like lawyers).

Who would you say is fair and balanced?

Media Bias

Editor & Publisher, the oldest publication covering the industry, has just released their latest study.

Among the ton of stats they presented, here are a few:
  • 85% detect bias in news reporting. Of those, 48% believe it is liberal bias, 30% conservative -- and 12% both
  • About three in four feel the news is too negative.
  • About three in four said reporters tend to favor one side over the other when covering political and social issues.
  • About half says the media tend to exaggerate problems or are too sensational.

Guess that about says it all huh?

Two different topics here -- Ann Coulter and media bias. I've said what I had to say about Ann "Fonda" Coulter. As far as media bias -- absolutely it exists. I'm one of those 12% who believes it exists on both sides of the liberal/conservative divide. I don't think the news is "fair and balanced", whether it be Fox or any other network. I think reporters present biased television reports all the time. Print reporters are a little better, but only because they don't necessarily have to present in processed sound bites. Yes, the media is way too sensational.

A lot of this comes from a lack of quality in journalistic education, and an erosion of journalistic ethics, factors affecting all media outlets, not just Fox or CNN, say.

The way I see it is its not really the bias thats the problem, its those individuals who make like they are objective when they are not. If I listen to Rush, Hannity, Snow ect. I know what I'm going to get. If I turn on Air America, Franken, Schultz I know what I'm going to get. They freely admit where they are coming from. When has the NY Times, LA Times, any of the major news anchors ever come out and said they are liberal? They present themselves as mainstream, unbiased when they are not. Many times its the facts they leave out of a story thats the problem, so its possible to slant a story without using an outright lie. Journalists just need to be honest about the biases they have so we can factor that in to their work.
