Also, many Amercians are not aware that Canada had/has a role in Afganistan.

And, yes, there were Canadian in Vietnam....

Taken DIRECTLY from Beagles link:

"Don Winrow of the Vietnam Veteran's Association in London, Ontario, estimates 40,000. "

A little reality here. I'm one of those "Canadian Vietnam veterans". It is true that some Canadian citizens fought in Vietnam. However, the majority of them, myself included, were naturalized American citizens, or American citizens of Canadian descent. Others were members of service, intelligence, or armed forces of other nations who sent units to Southeast Asia.

Canadians could easily join the American armed forces or other service organizations, volunteer, and fight in Vietnam because of a very special, very valuable relationship that has grown up between the United States and Canada over the last century -- a relationship unlike any other between two nations in human history. It has been a relationship that has benefited both nations greatly, and it is something both nations should preserve.

Ann Coulter has said and done irresponsible things that have damaged that relationship. She's done it out of ignorance, out of spite, and out of a cynical attempt to grab attention for herself and for those American media outlets she contracts with. She has not served her country well; just the opposite -- she 's hurt the interests of her country, and the interests of one of her country's closest allies. Her words and actions have made it very difficult for Canadians who support the United States to hold their own against Canadians who oppose American foreign policy.

Many Canadians, including many Canadian Vietnam war veterans I've spoken to, regard Ann Coulter as the "Jane Fonda" of the American conservative right.

I'm inviting you to look at these kinds of issues from a Canadian point of view, and remember just who the Canadians are, and what they have contributed to the United States.

((WELL SAID BY GEAR POET)) I couldn't figue out how to qoute him.

I would never demean the service or intentions of any solider, Canadian or otherwise. War is Hell, I'm glad I have not yet had to see it first hand.

Fox News is a Joke to me, I'd much perfer to see Janet Jackson's bare breast than have to hear and see some of the "offensive" dialog that goes on there.

I'm much rather see ANYONE'S breast than O'Reilly's ugly mug. Fox News is an unabashed mouth for the ultraconservative war-mongering faction in the Bush administration. "Fair and Balanced"? Not on Fox.

You forgot BBC and Al Jazeera. I agree there isn't anything fair and balanced that passes for news today. The major media players are to afraid of losing their Whitehouse press credentials to present anything other than official administration doctrin.

Republicans are funny, you have to wonder just HOW much they will believe these day's??
"Fair and Balanced"
Is that like when the President pays a New Station in D.C 100K to run a "story" that is (in reality) just a huge paid advertisement to push one of his agendas, no better than Tony Little and his gazzele, or Ronco, or YOU CAN BUY HOMES FOR $300.00!!! Now who is going to believe anything he spews when we know this is going on?? If we really knew what was going on in Washington, (no matter if your DE, RE, IND, we would probably stab ourselves in the neck with a pencil. It might be the left wing in me, but I feel like no matter what parties in charge, we are getting screwed here.
Gimme a break fellas, we should stick to truck talk, it keeps everyones blood pressure reasonable.

I find it as funny as all get out that both sides of the aisle will swear to Hell and back that the media is launching a giant conspiracy to get them...

What isn't the media blamed on these days? Give it all a break.

And I missed how Coulter "has said and done irresponsible things that have damaged 'that' relationship." I totally missed it, especially based on the comment presented at the beginning of the thread...

[Unless you're saying that she is undermining the current relationship by comparing it to the past relationship, which seems to me as a valid thing to do...]
