Thumbs down AMS Oil

Ok here is one for you guys that use AMS Oil; a friend of mine has a 2001 Durango 4x2 with the 4.7. He as run AMS Oil since the car had 6k on it and has followed the ams oil scheduled program to the letter. The car has 75k on it now and the engine seized and broke into pieces and punched a hole in the block. I always thought running a long time on oil was a big mistake. I might also point out the car has never pulled anything and was babied.

Well no matter how good or bad of an oil that it may be having an engine failure in 75k isn't just due to the oil. Something was either wrong with that motor or it was drove around with 1qt in it. He probably could have never changed the oil from the 6k to 75k and that wouldn't have happened if nothing was wrong with the motor.

I agree. I would have to see the cause of the failure before I would just jump to the conclusion that it was the oil's fault.

I don't use Amsoil, but I think it would be real unfair and unrealistic, to assume it was the oils fault until the engine were checked to see what failed.

Dodge Dealership said oil failure. They sent a sample of the oil to AMS oil and they are waiting to hear back.

Of course the dealership wants to blame it on the oil

ALWAYS the first thing they look at...check the oil, check for proof of oil change, look for a "approved" filter.

I had a buddy that had LP and IP problems on his 98 24V....Dodge blamed the Howes Lubricator he was using....lol.

i have used amsoil for as long as i can remember 250K on my cummins and its been run hard all the time and the 727 automatic has had amsoil in it since new and is still going and still towing with an engine thats fuel pump is turnd way up ... the oil gives you an edge in hard use but you still need to change it i would say something other than the oil is at fault!

Wait a second, he ran the Durango for 69K miles without an oil change? Am I reading this correct?

Well, I would never run oil for that long, I dont care if it does have a dual bypass filter. I would rather spend the extra couple of bucks to know that my engine had clean fresh oil.
