Almost ran over a girl tonight because of my window tint!

Ive got 15 (dark as legal here) on side windows, and theyre perfect for me. Can see out of them, look sharp, and little sun gets in. The back however, is an aftermarket slider and came with 15%, and then they tinted them with the 15% when I had it done, so I dont know how it works out, but with two layers of 15 plus my louvered headache rack, NO! sun gets in, but its like a mirror.

Box5 I agree with Hoss (Boy, that's hard to say) It's not worth even a close call. Since you're doing it yourself, at least it won't break the bank. I've got a buddy at a local PD south of B'ham and he uses his tint meter, allot.

they have tint meters? lol. Can they shoot ur truck while u drive by and check the tint? I've passed a lot of cops and none showed any interest so far, but I really want to change it for safety reasons, I couldn't park last night either without the windows down.

I had the same kind of apprehensions when I first put the 5% on my windows, about maybe hitting someone crossing the road(it happens a lot here in the college town, not people being hit but people crossing the road at night).
Luckily, so far nothing bad has happened, and I am more accustomed to it than I was when I first put it on. There are a lot of lights on the road here, so that kinda helps seeing.
However, this past week while I was at home, I REALLY noticed how dark the tint was on my truck at night. When I am home for awhile this winter I may rip the 5 off and put on some 20 or something. I typically ride with my windows down, but in the winter time that is not going to work so good, so taking it off will probably be the best bet.
Good thing you didn't hit her Box, and good luck with taking it off and putting new on.

No, they have a meter that they slip over the edge of the window and it reads the tint. It looks similar to a video cassette tape, just a little smaller. It only takes a few seconds.

i dont know what % is on my truck as it was on there when i bought it. i agree that it is a pain to back at night, however i normally drive with the windows down at night when it is warm and not raining.

I thought about going darker since it does get hot in AZ, but the safety issue is too great of a concern.
Even with light tint (i know mine is lighter than 25%) night time is too iffy and you really have to stare to check for 'mass' when manuevering.. no quick head turns.
I drive w/ windows down most of the time.

I had 5% on my saturn back when I cared about the car. It was alright when we lived in the city before we could afford our house. On the city streets not a real problem, but get back in the side streets and I knew it would not last.
When we moved out into the bush it was horrible so off with the tint.
My truck I have 20% all the way around and my light blocking headache rack as well. The 20% works good in the hot Tn sun and good at night.
