Mine was from a bank in California from the company Vivitek Corporation, also in California, but was return addressed to AZ or AL and needed to be mailed to the other (AL or AZ). Mine was for $27XX.75. He likes the .75 cents anyway. Mine was for a turbo and had a copy and paste signature on the check along with a printed piece of paper with instructions. Apparently somebody is getting took on this b/c he sent it to me Early AM Next Day UPS Air! ! ! That had to be like $30 easy. Same name, Michael, but told me he was from Canada. Had a family emergency and couldn't get it sent out on time, but would mail an extra $50 for my trouble. I hope he gets what's coming to him. Bad to say, but......

...and I did let Lary know.

johnson_ld_1001@look.com

thats the email address i received emails from. I never got a real check so I just blew it off....his emails got to be numerous and lengthy so i quit even messing with him, the broken english was too much for me.

the other internet fraud i've experienced, which may also be tied to this site, was through Paypal.

I received a fake email from Paypal saying I need to update my shipping and credit card information. It had been a while, so I bought it. (this was also the same time that I had an ad on this site with my Paypal email address shown.) A day later VISA called me with suspicious money transfers to Missouri. VISA somehow caught it and denied the charge. I had to cancel that credit card all together after that experience. Ironically, the check i got for $3500 instructed me to wire excess funds to a bank in Missouri.

I'm convinced now that the criminal got my email address from this site on a classified ad, sent me the fake Paypal email, and then took advantage of my stupidity. (for the record, you wouldn't believe how accurate this email looked. I'm still shocked it was fake!)

I do not leave my Paypal email address on classifieds ads anymore...and since then I haven't had a fake paypal email.

Maybe a bunch of us should find this guy's address and take a little vacation across the Atlantic

I'm thinking maybe we need to relieve them of some of their money. "Yes sir, I love to sell it to you but I need the money in the morning." Overnight letter charge.

"I'm sorry sir, the bank said they can't honor this check at this time. Can you send me another? Could you please overnight it also as I really need to sell this item." They have to produce another check and another overnight letter charge.

Look for the most expensive shipping and request that carrier only, problems with the others. This could go on indefinitely if you're imaginative enough.

i like scamming them back.

tell them their check went through just fine, but they aren't getting their extra $2,000 back because I would rather keep it...then ship him a box of crap...literally.

He emailed me and told me to cash the check quickly and wire him the extra money. He wanted me to wire the money out of my account, so by the time his check bounces. He would have over $2,000 of my money and their would be no way to get it back. I went to the bank and had it checked out and it is fraud. Same thing happened to my friend on this forum. Same check, and guy. So, do not sell anything to a guy from Europe with very crappy written emails. He has various email names he uses as well. Just dont want any of you good guys to get taken advantage of.
Let me guess...his name was Michael Garry?? If you refuse to pay him, he'll become FBI Agent 4087 and threaten to arrest you for money laundering if you don't pay him. If that doesn't work, he'll try to hit your religious side by saying that God will help you if you'll just pay him.

Same guy...same scam...even the same amount on the check...read all about my experience with him HERE. I decided to have a little fun with him.

Well, I think it's pretty ridiculous that this guy tries to impersonate a british subject.
Actually people in the land of Shakespeare do usually have a little better command of their mother tongue. So, to assume that you are getting scammed from Europe is a little far fetched.
On the other hand I do have lots of problems due to these scammers. A lot of times I do send $$$ by paypal or the like and the delivery of the goods is extremely delayed. If I don't have an exact shipping quote I usually take it from experience and add somewhere around 3-5 US$ to be on the safe side- since a US company declined to ship to me since the shipping would have been 8 cents more than the amount sent (Hey it was just a 800 US$ order) and they didn't even inform me until I called them- no reactions to my e-mails.
