I have been pulled over 2 times since driving and dealt with two completly different types. The first was lazar radar, yes I was speeding but the cop was completly rude and arrogant, said maybe 5 words the whole time, lisence, registration, etc, and here's your ticket. The second recently was similar to yours, pulled over for tint. He said "let me give you some warnings so I don't have to write you a bunch of tickets" and picked EVERY little nit picky thing (a few he was wrong about), he even VERY seriously said "you need to get your lisence replaced NOW it is cracked" couldn't believe how serious he was making it out to be......

Two very bad experiences, I am not happy when a cop tells me there is something illegal about my truck and they do not know the law.

It really sucks but you cannot do much. I am going to fight my tint ticket to, just on principal. Any front tint is illegal here so I might not get that far, but it is the point of it. Always will be cops out there with power trips we have to deal with, I just hope the next time I get pulled over it's a cop that respects the job....not sure how much more stupid people I can deal with, especially a cop that doesn't have a clue

I had a Police Officer recommend I get mine tinted. He said it prevents thieves from looking in and deters break ins. What is usually the max tint they allow? Are all the limos I see running illegal?

You're in NM. Big Difference. He recommended it, because it was already legal, being a hotter climate. Here, if the front 2 door windows are gonna be tinted, you can only have a strip from the top edge of the window, down 4 inches, so long as it doesn't excede the factory line across the windshield. There isn't an allowance for percentage overe the whole window. The back can only be tinted if you have mirrors on both sides.

Ooops, forgot. You may tint the front if, you get a doctors note for an endorsement. Then, with the endorsement you can only drive a tinted vehicle.

Actually, it was a TX Policeman that recommended it, but he told me I could go darker since I was from NM. Like a dummy, I forgot to ask how dark I could go. I didn't realize there were so many different %'s of tint before I started reading about it here. Guess I need to ask a tinting shop.

Guess I'm in the minority here, but in Illinois, it's illegal to have tint of any % on the front windows and I fully support this. It may be a warm climet in the summer and fall, but you have to think about what an officer has to face behind those tinted windows....I sure wouldnt' want to walk up to any veichle with darkended windows, especially at night. I guess it might help to try to see thier perspecitve for a change.

I always roll my window down and keep my hands on the wheel. I don't want to give them any reason to shoot me.

Is that wrong?....I didn't mean it badly....I think it would be nerve wracking approaching a vehicle blind.

I also always ask permission to go into my glove box or center console to retrieve my ins. if they ask for it. Hey I had an Officer put the muzzle of a gun against my head when he thought I was moving to quickly.

REALLLLLLYYY against your head. I doubt it most officers when and if they pull a fire arm would create some distance not become a movie star. Sorry I just think your over exagerating a tish.

i work out of state alot, ive come to realize that not all leo's are the same, we work nights generally and i do alot of my traveling @ night. The way i see it is if im in say maryland outside of baltimore on 95 headed south @ 3am going over the speed limit in an obnoxiously loud dually w/ tx plates im gonna stick out like a sore thumb...... the traffic cop has to do his job and i gotta do mine. Kinda like a cat and mouse game, once in awhile I get caught...it happens....no big deal. Im not one for having a jack *** attitude, if the cop asks why i was speeding i tell him that i didnt realize i was speeding...from there it sometimes goes into this direction..."you were going Xmph and the speedlimit here is Xmph.." I just reply w/ a simple ok and a concerned look is all i go for. I dont like to feed any fires or anything like I just let it be. I figure hes already stated i was driving over the speed limit or some other traffic infraction. I dont feed into any one sided conversations, for me I got other things to worry about then a silly ticket, over zealous leos, yeah they cost money and could possibly make my insurance go up. Now there are pretty cool cops out there, I was on my way to west virginia, and comming through jackson co, Tn I got pulled over by the sheriffs dept. I had my pistol grip shotgun @ arms reach and 1oz slugs and buck shot shells in my cup holder. I was on my phone in the slow lane headed north I passed a rest area and it just so happened that a sherrifs dept vehicle pulled out of the rest area as i was passing it by, i was going a few miles under the speed limit. I let my truck drift over the white line on to the shoulder, just the outside dual, and I got it back on the road as soon as that happened the disco lights were on......I got off the phone imediatly and pulled over rolled down the windows, killed the truck, and left my hands on the steering wheels...the officer came to the passanger side window and asked if I was ok or if I was tired, because he noticed I swerved a little bit. The way he asked the question was sincere, i heard it in his voice and that put me @ ease, I explained to him I was on my cell phone and my truck pulled to the right a little he noticed the shells in the cup holder and asked if i had a weapon in the truck i told him yes. The officer asked to look @ it i told him it was in the back seat unloaded w/ the slide back he asked what i was doing w/ it and I told him my reasons behind it all and he asked where I was headed to, he put the shotgun back in place ran my liscence, he came back to the truck and gave it back to me and said "God bless you son, have safe travels" That for me was a good fella for lookin out for my safety askin if i was tired n such. LEO's have good and bad days, and if I feel like the officer is comming off a lil harsh...I figure maybe hes constipated lmao or just having a bad day, so I steer clear of any confrontations keep my answers simple and to the point, and not feed into anything. If theyre professional that puts me @ ease and its easier to just get it over w/ and be on my merry way. What do i know though im just 26

There’s decent cops, and not so decent obviously. I have experienced both. My favorite is when I see them not obeying the same traffic laws in their own squad car. Speed around town. Squawk the tires for no reason. Ride your tail for no reason, and no, not because they are getting your tag info. I have paid close attention to them in my rear view. There off in la la land looking out the side windows. I have a lot of respect for officers and am glad those kind of people are out there. I just wish there were not so many that were hypocrites. You do the same things we do. In the small town I live in, I can’t tell you how EVERYDAY I see them creep past a stop sign not making a full stop. Do illegal U turns just to pull into the drive through at McDonalds. Pretty funny though. Not use proper signaling, etc… So, thanks for your service and protection, but next time you see someone that did the same minor traffic violation that you had probably done during that day, think twice about making a big deal about it.

He did act like a movie cowboy.
