Adapt and overcome
Not that this is a huge ordeal, but it was a fun little project to do, even though I wouldn't have had to do it if I didn't screw up in the first place. I like to think that when I scwew up, that I make up for it, and learn something new in the process.
So, About a year ago, I installed a new cat back walker exhaust system to my 94 yota. It was a replacement for the one I bought a few years before that which was a "lifetime warranty". Well, the thing they tell you when you get your replacement is that "you only get one replacement in a lifetime", so my "lifetime" replacement was up.
So, Slammazon had a new "Bosal" exhaust for my truck... or so it seemed. Got the first order about 2 weeks ago. UPS did a number on it, and dented the crap out of the muffler. I complained, and Slammazon sent me a new one the next day. I sent the old one back, and today was the day I got to replace my replacement of my replacement.
The new muffler system was only on there about a year, and it completely rotted out where the muffler outer shell dropped off the truck while I was driving it around. Scared the bajesus out of me, as I thought I ran something over, but it was just the outer casing falling to the ground and getting stuck under the axle... grinding away as I drove.
So today, I finished my "DE RUSTING AND REPAINTING of my yota's frame, and went to put my new muffler on. Well, DUMBARSE that I am, I ordered a pipe system that fits a "REGULAR" cab, and not my extended. So as I'm lying on my back for the 600th time in the last few days, I realize I'm about a foot short. Didn't freak out, didn't yell, although I really wanted to. I stayed calm and thought of a workaround for this.
Since my old exh system was still in good shape besides the muffler, I realized that the front pipe was still good. Cut a section off (about 4 inches longer than I needed) and after installing, uninstalling a few times, I set myself up with a perfect fix. Turns out the walker pipe is nearly the same O.D. as the inside of the Bosal. I just needed to slit the pipe, and it went right in. Worked like a charm, and I got to practice more of my welding skills.....
Cut the new pipe flange off and inserted the old pipe
Welded it all together after figuring out just how far I needed the old pipe into the new pipe (2.5" or so)
From the back without the spare tire installed
Frankenstein's front pipe
I bought this pipe end for my wife's truck, but never installed it as it didn't fit right.... but it fit my truck just fine...
Fun Day... Nice weather..... Got my old pig back up and tooling around.
You guys ever do any ADAPTING ?
