.41 magnum RIFLE a good Coyote Gun?
What are your thoughts on a Marlin 1894 FG .41 magum for a coyote gun in an area where you have to REALLY watch your backdrop because of housing. Dads got one that he has never shot and I like the looks of it, but my thoughts are the bullet wont carry real far because of weight, making it a safer gun to shoot in a semi populated area. Its getting populated enough that I dont even like to shoot the .22 anymore out in the field. Am I thinking wrong on this gun ( maybe just wishfull ) or not? thanks.

was hoping that with the heavy slug it would die quicker, not a high velocity projectile and is only good out to 150+- yards, maybe I'm way wrong, it has happend once or twice before..LOL

As far as a good coyote gun, I think it's great. I killed 19 with my sig 239 40 cal last winter, and 5 with a 22 rimfire. BY far the best gun for coyotes in very populated areas is a 12 gauge with some "Dead Coyote" loads or 000 buckshot, both good to more than 50 yards-Matt

I shoot my 41 mag S&W with a 83/4 barrel in silhouette matches at 200 yds and it is extremely accurate, much better than my 44 mag in the same gun. You need to realize that a longer barrel in a rifle will produce higher pressures behind the bullet which in turn means greater range as well.

well guess that I'll just have to find another excuse to buy the .41, its a nice short carbine and I was wanting to give it a go, Dad will never use it, he fell in love with a lil .22mag. Oh well, thanks guys .

I have met tons of guys over the years that have or had a .41 mag, they all either still have it or wish they had kept it That carbine should be a good shooter, especially with hand loads.
