35'' BFG Mud Terrains
I am running BFG All Terrain 285/70/17s currently. Great tire. So far I have 43,000 miles on them and they probably have 20k left if I baby them. Maybe more.
I REALLY REALLY like the looks of the BFG Mud terrains. I am considering putting on a set of 35'' x 12.5'' MTs on next go round, and keeping my 285's for playing on the strip etc. later (after I get my transmission built and buy a spare set of 17'' rims).
How much of a long term durability/mileage penalty am I going to face with these? I do alot of highway cruising at about 75ish. I don't really NEED MTs. The ATs are what I NEED.........but I WANT the MTs for the "Look".
I am assuming a slight handling penalty in addition to the long term mileage penalty. Can I expect 50,000 out of set MTs? Less?
How are the MTs on dry pavement in the rain? MPGs? I am thinking that the 35's will help my on highway/non-towing mileage a little bit. Yes?
Thanks in advance.

I researched those and found a lot of people getting 50K+ out of them but not much more... I think they get respectable wear for a M/T from what I've heard.
The load rating sucks on the 35x12.50x17 BFG M/T right at 3,000lbs your taking a step back if you tow a lot.
My 315 BFG A/Ts hurt my economy around town and a little if any on the hwy... 3.73 gears/auto.

I don't know what other people are doing different than me to get 50,000 out of those tires, but when I had mine on, 30,000 was it before I got a new set (rotated every 8,000). They were not bald, but I didn't want to drive them through another snowy winter.

I got a little over 40K on my 35" BFG MT's on my old Dodge, still had a little tread left but were pretty naked looking. Of course it was a 1/2 ton so the weight difference might have played a small part in it.

I have over 30k on mine and other than bad wear on one tire from toasted ball joints they are all wearing very evenly!... have lots of tread left, wet dry they grab very well.... I tow a good bit and heavy every now and then with no problems.... great tire will be buying again..... i've never rotated these tires.. (i no bad me) and they are still wearing great! u can have a look at the meet on fri.
mine will see at least 45k probably 50k.... now I don't do burn outs or anything like that but I am heavy on the throttle towing and empty....

Thanks for the comments, keep em coming!
I do tow kinda often...and sometimes fairly heavy...
But I don't think the load rating will hurt me to bad. I am not planning on any more 26K loads anymore....that was a one time thing.
Brian...I hope you are happy! It is because of you and looking at your MTs that made me want them. Now I gotta spend a grand to get new tires when my truck has so many other areas demanding my $.

$1000 for four tires?
The only thing that could remotely be worse than that would be if some sucker had to buy 6 of them! Sux to be me now doesnt it? Anyone know the cheapest source for some tires at a good price?
