2001 Ford Escape
Lookin at a damaged 2001 Ford Escape XLS 4cyl 5 speed w/ 69k on it. Damage is to driver side rear door. Doesn't look too bad, but probably needs a new door. He's asking 3100, but I'll probably offer somethig much less and see how bad he wants to get rid of it.
What experiences have you had with these? It's for the wife to drive around when it snows (which it's been doing constantly now) instead of her camry. Also might take it up to Breckenridge instead of the cummins!
Thoughts, comments and questions.
Thanks guys and gals in advance!

Everyone I know with the early 4 cylinders have had issues. Is it 4x4? If not, her camry will do just as well. Plus, those early 4 cylinders only had about 120hp I think.
If it was me, I would keep looking. If you can get it cheap enough though, it might be worthwhile.
Good luck

It is a 4x4 (thank god) and I'm talking like 1500-2000 max.
What issues have they had?
It's really for like a 4th car (or toy). We, just my wife and I, have the dodge (my dd) the 02 camry (her dd) and the wrangler. It'd be nice to have a 4x4 for her to drive since the jeep would be a little cold in the snow. Fun, but cold.
So if I get it and it sits for a while why I wait for parts, it'll be okay.

my moms got a 02' 4wd, but it's the 6cyl. I'd imagine the 4 cyl would be pretty ball less, lol. I guess i can't be much help since there different engines, but other than the 4 cyl being probably under powered, her 6 cyl has been a great car for her.

A lady my wife works with has an 02 and she has had hers in the shop 3 times in 6-7 months and cost about $600 a pop. I don't recall all the issues, but one of them was fuel related and I think another may have been trans. The newer ones seem to be ok, but I have talked to a few people with older ones and they have had issues. But if you can get it for $1500, thats a decent price for a 4x4, even if it does have a few issues here and there. Also, all the people I know have the 4 cylinder, I think it is a 2.0 and the newer ones are 2.3, which are better. And the 3.0 V6 is ok too.

only problem my mom had was a front right wheel bearing starting humming when you turn at high speeds. She's got 150k on it, and it's a 03' actually, so i'm not sure about the older ones. But she drives all day because she's a home health care nurse so she puts alot of miles on and it's held up fine.
