Exclamation 2000 Chevy: Fuel contamination.

Yesterday I got a call from the girlfriends step-dad.. After work he started his truck (2000 Chevy 1500 4x4 5.3L) He stated that after about 3 minutes of warming up it started to stumble-miss then it soon died, and it would NOT restart. I ran up to his work and we hooked a strap up and I towed it home with my truck..

Turned the key on, the fuel pump ran but it sounded like it was trying to pump gravel.. Very little fuel pressure at the rail.. So seeing as it was that model chevy, fuel pump dead of course. We installed a new pump (Airtex) and tried to start it... Nothing, still dead! But we have pressure at the rail now... 54-60PSI I decided to bleed a bit out of the rail and see it we had some air stuck.. While bleeding I noticed the gas almost looked like a milky substance and did not smell right.. We filled a clear water bottle with gas/milk crap from the rail by purging it off with the fuel pressure tester.. By time the bottle was Full it looked like milk. I have the bottle out in the garage, by time I locked up the Milky slimy substance had settled to the bottom, and the gas had floated to the top above this slim crap.. We pulled a few plugs out and they where completly dry after 25 seconds of cranking with NO smell of gas on them.. Im thinking the injectors are plugged, with this stuff. We have good strong spark, just no fuel past the fuel rail.

Few other things: I was able to suck a bit of this substance out of the bottle and tried to light it on fire, it was hard to ignite and burned for maybe 2 seconds with a weak flame.. Oh and it taste sweet!

Im thinking the old sugar/water trick??

Time for a locking gas cap..

Sounds like the sugar water got him. Injectors might be toast, won't know till you get fresh fuel in it.

Water is bad news for injectors, so maybe the injector tips are ruined...but hopefully not.

Get the system all ready to go with fresh clean Diesel and hope for the best!

Well good news: he had all of the injectors and fuel rails saved off of his other 2001 Chevy 5.3 when he blew it up.. We switched all injectors, along with the fuel rails.. Blew the lines sucked the gas and goo out of the tank. With a new fuel filter she fired right up and runs like a champ now...

I don't think the (fresh clean diesel ) would have helped him at all in a 5.3 chevy gasser

Did he pick up the milky contamination at a fuel stop or does he have some enemies ??

They seem to look fine to me... However he put a few miles on it, and it started to run really rough again (like it was starving for fuel). He filled the tank with gas and a bottle of sea foam.. I guess Ill put the fuel pressure gauge on it in the mornin and see if maybe that fuel filter is clogged already... I dunno..
