Question 1993 Grand Cherokee Fuel Pump ???

1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee inline six auto.

Just often enough to really be annoying , it will crank over, with spark, but no start.

Kick the thunder out of the fuel-tank, and it will then start.

Will be fine for several days, then, in a most unhandy place, at a most unhandy time, no start and have to get out, crawl under, and kick the tank again.

I figure the stupid expensive ($228 at Advance) in-the-tank fuel-pump is on the way out.

The vehicle, with a new pump, wouldn't be worth what a new pump costs.

That brings me around to my question.

What would be the outcome of mounting an external in-the-line fuel-pump, and leaving the in-tank pump as is??

I would have the extra pump on a toggle-switch, and only flip it on when the factory one refuses to work.

Can this work??

Thanks.

Thanks and I appreciate the offer of the pump.

I may get with you on it in a few days.

I just priced it cheap and maybe, after a day or so, the problem will be someone else's.

I am still curious as to what the outcome would be of adding an in-line fuel-pump, while leaving the stock pump as is.

Thanks.
