1/2 ton gear question for you guys

My '99 has a 360 with auto and 3.55s. My buddy is gonna hook me up with his 20s and 39.5" Swampers. After I lift it, I'm thinking 4.56 gears would help it out alot, 4.10s at the least. He's still running the stock gears in his '01 Ram 360/auto. What do you guys think?

Just talked to my friend that had the above mentioned truck, says with the factory chrysler rear end the lowest gear is a 4.56. Also have some more news but I have to send it via pm.

Click the tires link, then gear ratio link to compare your current rpm to your find the gear for the tire size you want.

I had a 02 chevy before my dodge. 6 inchs of lift and 35s with 3.73s. It was alrite from normal drivin but would have be way ungeared for muddin, but i didn't do that with that truck. 4.56s would have put me back to what the ratio was with the factory tires.

Me I wouldn't go lower than 4.88s. I'm not sure on how low you can go on the factory axles but I'd think you should be able to go lower than 4.56s but you may have to change the housin so it would be a god time to go with a locker or a good limited slip.

Just off the the top of my head, I'd like 5.13s would put you back to stock, maybe on the lower side of factory but then you could ahve a problem breakin them if you were to go muddin but I wouldn't wheel with a 1/2 ton gear with anything over 35s.

I pieced the lift together myself. Still need a couple of things to complete it but I don't have the $$'s right now.

I've only had the truck in 4wd once in the 2 years I've had it, and that was just to use 4-low to pull some fence posts out of the ground. I don't really need a deep gear b/c it's my daily driver for now..plus I'd rather upgrade the axles once it retires from daily use and becomes a weekend toy.
