The first half was pretty stressful but the second half has been ok. I went on an informal interview today for an operator's position for the week I'm off. They're suppose to call me back on Friday. I suspect they'll be done by then but I was sure hoping to get to run the machine. I've never sat a 480 Kebelco before but 108k machine is big, real big!
That's good, at least it's not cold yet.
From the archives, I found one of Eric's hunting videos. Enjoy.....

Scott, a vendor and friend of my wife told her about it. I called and got the number from him. I met with the guy this afternoon and got the whole, sordid story. It seems the operator they have nearly laid the machine on it's right side yesterday. He was tearing down apartments and failed to bust out the first floor on one building before walking the machine out on the rubble. The floor blew out and the machine dropped a track into the basement. The pictures I saw had the machine sitting at nearly a 45* angle. They used the two 320 Cat excavators on site to load material into the basement and clear the other debris around the 480 before setting it on it's paws again. If they had another operator to call on the guy would have been gone yesterday morning. I'm not getting excited about the opportunity yet though. They've decided to keep the guy on until the end of the day Friday. If he would kick up his pace just a bit he could have the remainder of the buildings down by then.
The irony in this job site is that where I was standing this afternoon is just 2 buildings away from the first big case I worked at HPD. I had been back from the academy and with my FTA for 3 weeks when we got dispatched to a double murder/suicide. We heard the last shot as we pulled up about 200 feet from where I was standing this afternoon.

The only reason you thought of Blake was because it is EXACTLY the kind of thing he would post!
Yeah, you're right. People would rather pay crap and GET crap, then complain about it instead of paying for quality. I get calls all the time. Once they find out I don't work for free, they hire someone like the guy that dropped a track into a basement. THEN they call me back offering the work again. This is where you are right about my shining personality, because it's at that point the attitude comes out and I not so politely decline!
Furnace keeps plugging the nozzle because there's a fine silt in the tank that the filter isn't picking up. It's a used tank that I had to install last spring when the old one sprung a leak. Cleaned it as best as I could but I couldn't get it all. Now it's just a matter of changing the nozzle a couple hundred times before it's all gone. Thought about installing a spin-on fuel filter but it hasn't frustrated me enough yet!
I'm offta bed. Got to get up early and deliver a load of lumber to the school then go get a load of sawdust. Ought to be a lovely day feeling like I do. Got a Dr's appointment for Friday finally. They weren't impressed when I told them I didn't need insurance because I was gonna use the health plan Obama promised us! Hope they give me a miracle drug because I have a 100 mile trip to make on Saturday to get a load of hay. Dumb horses!
