does it not make noise at all or does it fade out as you're driving?
are you the only one to notice this? could be you've burned out that aural frquency in your ears from it being so loud and listening so long...

Here's the story on this. I was over at Travis's and talking to him about fuel mileage the other night. I was telling him I can hear the turbo whistle as low as 1400 rpms, and I have been able to in the past.
Over the weekend, I picked up a Dingo (total weight was about 2000lbs w/trailer), and I noticed a significant loss of passing power. This made me listen for the whistle, which in the past used to drive me crazy.
So I've been thinking my LP was going out because I've been noticing a loss of power since last fall. I did check my air filter back in December, and it was all good, so I never thought it was a turbo issue, but now knowing I don't hear the whistling above 1700 rpms I'm thinking I might have a boost issue. Today, I couldn't hear the whistle at all.
Anyone know if a turbo issue will cause a Check Engine light?
I guess I better pull the filter and run it to see if there's any difference. I've got a new filter on it's way from Geno's so I hate to try and run the motor without one, but it's driving me crazy now.

Don't run it without a filter. Wait for the new one to come in unless it is really really bad. I have a used one that you could borrow if needed, it has about 15k on it.
I know that it might have been said before but you should think about getting gauges on it so that you can better identify your problems. With an automatic I would get Boost, FP, Trans temp, and EGT. I am sure that Lloyd could hook you up with a set since he is a chapter member, DTR advitiser, and a great guy.

No, the only turbo issue that will set a CEL is an overboost code (and even those don't do it usually) But if you are having loss of power in the upper RPMS it could very well be a fueling issue. If your lift pump is bad and the truck isnt getting the fuel then you aren't gonna be making the boost you should be which means the turbo is going to be quieter.
check your fuel pressure first and foremost, as well as I think the 04's can do that key on-off trick 3 times and see if any other codes come up
