Truckless in Afghanistan

Hi all. Long time browser, first time register...er. I'm writing from beautiful Afghanistan where I spend my idle time thinking of home: my dog in the truck...off to what is sure to be a great adventure (usually going to Lowes or something, though he never seems to care).
My Cummins Dodge is the first new vehicle I've ever owned...it's almost 100% stock. It has 40k miles and has been well used but obsessively maintained since day one. I'm in the military, so I tow a 23 foot trailer loaded with everything I own in it infrequently, but about 10,000 miles in the past 4 years. I change the oil more often than I need to, worry about details on it, and spend too much time window shopping for it online.
This time though, I'm serious about doing some things I've been meaning to do for a long time: mild engine mods, exhaust, possible GV overdrive, maybe putting HID lights in...some 24" Spinner Wheels (kidding). The truck is currently in surrogate care with my dad, serving joint time with the dog...meaning there's plenty of time to have some of the stuff done before I get back late this year. This site seems like it holds a wealth of specialized knowledge, and I look forward to reading more as I get a chance...when neither sleep nor the mission are calling.
Cheers,
Juice

Welcome and thanks for defending our country and the job you do! Don't let it fool you when the liberal media and democrats say negative things about what is going on. True Americans support you!!!!

Thanks for the support. Things are pretty good here, overall. My wife is actually over here as well. Funny how that works. I came here from Vance, but I grew up in the AF at Langley. I'm hoping to go to Anchorage Alaska in some capacity leaving here.

Definately wierd how these things work out. Wish we could have had our deployment worked out at the same time, but we have deployments back to back. Just left Anchorage, if you get it, you'll love it... I had a great time up there.

I wish you luck...I was there from 98-06. That's why I said I'm "doing time" at Wright-Patt. Nothing will ever be the same once you've been to AK.

I keep hearing that...hope I get to experience it. Did you drive/tow up and back? I've towed around on the interstate a few thousand miles at a time but this trip sounds pretty epic. It gives me an excuse to gear up the truck though!

Yes, I drove both ways and would do it again in a heart beat. When we drove up from South Carolina, I went through Montana and up through Calgary. On the way back, we took the route down through Seattle. Either way you go, I would get a "Milepost", take your time and enjoy the scenery.

Sounds like it may be time to start a "DTR Deployed" chapter. A "CJTF-DTR" of sorts...
