Work Truck Died!!!! Need Help Please!!!
MY FATHER HAS A 98 24 VALVE CTD AND HE WAS ON A DELIVERY TODAY AND AS NORMAL WHILE HE WENT INSIDE HE LEFT THE TRUCK RUNNING AND AS HE WAS STANDING THERE THE TRUCK STARTED RUNNING ROUGH. AS HE WENT TO LEAVE AND PUT THE TRUCK IN REVERSE THE TRUCK INSTANTLY DIED AND WOULD NOT START BACK UP, BUT ONE TIME IT ACTED LIKE IT WANTED TO START AND TO NO AVAIL. IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT THE TRUCK WAS STARVING FOR FUEL BEFORE HE GOT IN IT. THE TRUCK HAS 180K MILES AND THE LIFT PUMP WAS REPLACED AT 125K AND THE INJECTOR PUMP WAS REPLACED AT 75K. PLEASE CONTACT ME AT GOLDDUSTERS5703@EARTHLINK.NET OR BY PHONE TOLL FREE 1866-325-9850 JEREMY OR DAN HINTON THANK YOU

The simplest way is to remove the test port on the fuel filter housing and see if fuel comes out when you turn the key on. This won't tell you the pressure, but you'll know the the lift pump is moving ANY fuel.
If the lift pump is moving fuel, you then crack an injector line and turn the engine over. Fuel should squirt out. If it does, the injector pump is working.

The test port on top of the fuel filter canister is 1/8 NPT. You can buy a guage to screw in and fire it up, or bump the starter if the reading is zero, you lost your VP-44 along with the lift pump.
Tell your dad to get an in cab fuel pressure gauge, or get one for his B-day.

Thanks For The Help
Thanks Guys For All Of Ur Help. There Is No Fuel At Injector, But Before Injection Pump There Is Plenty. Conclusion-injection Pump Is Dead. Is It Necessary To Replace Lift And Injection Pump. I Have My Own Theory Why To Replace Both, But I Would Like Some Input Please. Thanks Again.

You need to know the fuel pressure. If below 8 psi at any time, including WOT, replace the lift pump. You will not be able to test all conditions until you have the engine running again, but you can test what pressure it will put out without the engine running.
The kicker here is you may not be able to get a replacement lift pump liek what you have now. It is my understanding that these lift pumps are no longer available, and you must switch the fuel system to the in-tank pump when the engine-mounted lift pump goes bad. You may still be able to get the lift pump from a Cummins dealer though.
