wire color for buzzer
I currently have the dash out of my truck and I am in search of the wire that signals the buzzer when the key is inserted into the ignition (but not turned) I am looking to use this to signal a pair of relays for auxillary lights. (lights will frequently be in use when the engine is not running, but I would like a way to make sure I dont leave them on when I park the truck)
Thanks for any help you may be able to provide.

That sounds like a great idea.
Not sure about 1997 but a 2004 uses Violet with Tan stripe.
I wasn't able to verify it, but I'd be willing to bet the key-in-ignition uses ground sense as opposed to sending 12v. If so, use and ohm meter and check for continuity to ground with the key in. Once you find the wire (that isn't black) then pull the key out and see if you lose continuity.

Easiest place to find the wire is to take the cover off the steering column, trying to find it in the tight bundles under the dash is very difficult. One thing for sure I've learned working on these trucks is that the wiring coloring seems to change with every year.
On the key switch there is a four wire connector to the key switch separate from the main connector, two of the wires are for the key halo light, the other two for the key in chime.
