Wierd Moaning-Grinding Sound
I have a 2000 4x4 auto trans,CTD,185k and have recently have been hearing a wierd moan or binding sound when I coast down to about 12-20 mph,I can take the truck out of gear(nuetral) and the noise will go away,I was thinking possible u joint or center bearing, any thoughts? Not a brake issue, will hear it constantly when doing about a 15mph roll.

Mine does that too.
2002 with 31K.
Short bed though, so no center bearing.
Am thinking something in the tranny or torque converter perhaps.
Although I first noticed mine soon after I got the lift.
Sorry no help though.

My center u joint went out last night it creates alot of moaning and groaning as well as some vibration. Picked up a new one and had it installed in 30 minutes no problem. Not sure if it had be replaced before or not but it did have a grease fitting in it that had never been used.
