Where is my CPK!

Re:Where is my CPK!
I don't know if this will help from the 2003 service manual:

"CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR DESCRIPTION
The Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP) on the diesel
engine is attached at the front / left side of the
engine next to the engine harmonic balancer."

Smokedog I believe you are correct. I found the Cam Posistion sensor but I dont know if that is really the problem.

I talked to the ******* in Corpus and he told me there is a timing solenoid in the injection pump and there is no CKP.

Im taking it to a dealer in Odem to get my money back on the CKP and have them hook it up to the computer.

-Goin down the road power stalls - tach keeps working. Truck can still drive but has no power. It recovers in a few minutes and it may not happen again for 2-3 days.

Only code I can pull up is 1693 - DTC code in ECM.

I love my truck but its sending me to the poor house.

If that's the only code coming up,
you might see if the Dodge Dealer can recommend you to a Cummin's shop.
They know the engine just a wee bit more than the techs at Dodge do , and might be able to find the problem quicker.

Re:Where is my CPK!
Your problem is systematic of a CKP. With the 1693 code, though, it could be something as simple as corrosion inside the wiring harness connectors. Also, it could be the APPS. You could try the calibration routine on the APPS and see if it helps. Since the tach isn't dying, I'm thinking this may be your problem.

Disconnect the batteries for about 20 minutes. Then reconnect the batteries. Turn the key to "on" but don't start the engine. Slowly depress the accelerator pedal to the floor and then slowly release the pedal. Start the truck. The Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor can cause the problem you are having. Let's hope it's not the problem because they are a little pricey.

Re:Where is my CPK!
I did the APPS recallibration when I put in my hydro boost and it seemed to run fine until it stalled again and engine light came on the next day.

Went to dealer and he pulled up a bunch of codes.
Injection timing (maybr from PnP)
Boost sensor
and the list goes on.........

He emptied the codes. I left the BD PnP off.

Truck at low speeds acts like its running out of fuel. Real fast sputter. But not all the time.

It will also do it on real hard accelleration. Sometimes.

At 55 in OD it will also do it. Sometimes.

Went back to dealer to read codes and there were not any. Except for Trans relay.

Dealer doesnt know the problem cause he cant find any codes. The APPS should leave a code. Re:Where is my CPK!
BBD, I'm thinking with all these codes popping up, you either have a dirty ground wire connection or a wiring harness that's loose or has corrosion in the connector. Take your connectors apart and spray some contact cleaner in them and put them back together.
