Im not familiar with the 5600, I have the 4500. Might wanna check on the side of your trans for a spec on oil. The 4500 are tagged " use of other than Castrol syntorque will void warranty" . From what I understand in the 4500 at least a GL-5 is not good to run, the additives will eat up the syncro rings.

The way I see it is you have three choices....in no particular order....Royal Purple SynchroMax (in mine), Redline MTL, or the Penzoil Synchromesh.
It took 9.5 pints so five quarts of whatever you chose will work. I have noticed that shifting is smoother now. Others have good results with the MTL too.

If memery serves me correctly you should use a straight 50. I liked the idea better then on the 4500 and there special oil. There are lots of synthetics out there so use the one you like for they do lubericate better . I have used Mobil's oils for years.

if you are still under warranty, you have to use the factory spec oil. If you change to something else and you have tranny problems, the repair is on YOUR dime! they actually take an oil sample to tell what fluid is in it.

But, a LOT of people have gotten better shifting and performance by switching to RedLine MTL

About the XD-3....what grade is it?
From what I understand the 15W40 isnt synthetic BUT the Esso XD-3 0W40 is FULL synthetic (group 4 PAO) and is comparable to Mobile 1 or Amsoil (although the additive package may not be quite as good). It would be a pretty good deal if you can get the 0W40 for free or cheap. As for the 15W40 XD-3 - I believe that is regular dino oil.
