VP44 just replaced and won't start
I just finished replacing my VP44 in my 2001 and it will not start. I followed Diesel Dan's videos and don't think that I missed anything. I did install the air horn already because I didn't think that it mattered. I am getting fuel out of #3 & 4 injector lines.
I got my rebuilt VP44 from thoroughbreddiesel.com and where Dan said it is supposed to have the 027 was not stamped into it and all the stampings in that area were faint. I did see an 032 (I think that was the #) stamped into another part of the VP44.
While I was under the hood, I did do the Banjo bolt upgrade. I have an Edge Juice with Attitude installed but didn't connect back up to VP44 yet. I did purchased the Stealth cover which I haven't installed yet (didn't wire tap either).
I keep on cranking it and it sounds like it wants to start but it won't.
Help...

Keep bleeding, I got fuel out of couple injectors at first, but it took awhile to get it out of 4-5 of them, I'm guessing I was up on the motor bleeding for 15 minutes.

GizmoJoe,
Sounds like I'm going to have to replace my VP44 as well....Any tips would be appreciated.
I have seen the video about the VP44 replacement.
Thanks,
Graham

OK...I did do some more bleeding and got good fuel coming out of #1, 3 & 4 injectors and it still will not start but making a nice mess in the driveway.
I am cold and done for the night...
Tomorrow I guess I need to pull the air horn back off to bleed #2 and then bleed #5. I don't even want to think of bleeding #6.
Is there anything else I might be missing? Need to look at? Might have screwed up?

Did you plug the injector pump wiring harness back in? I'll only ask because that was overlooked on one of the two VP44 replacements done this weekend (not mine).
If it's not plugged in, then it won't even try to run. If it tries to run but idles too slow, it still has air in some lines. Keep trying and it will clear. Also, make sure you're holding the accelerator down slightly so you're feeding additional fuel.

Did you destroy the Crank position sensor near VP44?
Is it possible you allowed the pump dirve gear to misposition itself during the replacement?

YEAH!!! I got it running...
Just did a lot more bleeding and dumped about 1/2 gallon of fuel on the driveway through 1-4 injectors and it was still tough to get started the first time.
It's out idling in the driveway now...Time to take it for a test drive.
Thanks for everyone's suggestions.

Yeah...it's a real BEAR to get it to light off again when ALL the fuel system has been drained........don't ask me how I know.
I had to put a battery charger on mine last time...............

We had a simular problem on a chapter members truck after the IP. I had to bleed the FF, it was air bound and wouldn't push through, i got a pretty good diesel bath too. ya know you can't stop the pump after the starter's been bumped.
