Two problems in governor, '98 12-v

I was installing Pier's 3000GSK through the top and dropped the small spring seat into the cavity. However I didn't know I dropped it, didn't account for all the parts, and started up the engine. It wouldn't idle but revved up to 3000 nicely. The next day, being less tired and stupid, I looked at the parts and noticed the missing spring seat. I opened up the gov and fished out ALL of the spring seat fragments. I can assemble them into a whole spring seat. Here's my two problems:

1. One spring retainer stud (the threaded screw which holds the springs) is bent. My index finger is loose in one side of the bore and no go in the opposite side. It was difficult removing the keeper and springs from that side which is why it wouldn't idle. I think I can lever it back straight. Failing that, I would like to remove and replace it. Anybody ever done that? Any advice out there?

2. While poking around inside the cavity, I pushed the cam follower finger back and it stayed back, like it's cocked. I fussed with it but I can't get it to move forward to the usual positiion. I don't think it will work where it is. How do I move it forward?

Not a real expert on this but I THINK you need to turn on the ignition or "bump" the starter to get the cam follower to move forward. Maybe someone can confirm this.

Can't help you with the other. My 3K GSK went in without any problems.

I know there was a post a little while back where someone else did the same thing in a different way, see this:

Thank you, Sidewinder. That thread is good. I'll get in touch with Muddinford, and bump the starter.

Governor repaired

It's done. Pulls to 3000 nicely, rather than crapping out at 2600. Idle adjusted to 770 RPM and stable. No jumps in smooth increase of RPM from idle to 2000. Thanks to Mudinford for the encouragement and pioneering. Thanks to Sidewinder for the knowledge that the cam follower could be reset.

I levered the stud straight after bracing the engine to prevent rotation. I pulled and poked on the throttle and shutoff actuator until the follower moved forward to its normal position.

Glad you got it fixed!! Thanks for telling us how the fix went. I hope the 3K GSK works as good for you as it did for me!
