Turbocharger Blown
Yesterday I blew out my turbo :'( and I am fixing to pull it off and replace it. I am pretty sure how it comes off but, the waste gate actuator is my biggest question. I see the 2 bolts holding it but, the small metal hose that goes from the actuator to the trubo is throwing me. Is it pressed in place or is there some other way it is held in. My other question is do I need and special tools? If any one has replaced there factory turbo and has some pointers please help me, or a step by step would be great. My truck is a 01 and is factory for the most part. I made the truck straight piped awhile back would this cause my turbo to go?

Re:Turbocharger Blown
Dodge4X4, are you absolutely sure the turbo is shot? Have you checked to see whether there may just be a boot blown?
I am sure your diagnosis is correct, but just trying to help.

Re:Turbocharger Blown
No I feel pretty certain that it is the turbo. When it happened there was a loud noise under the hood and I blew enough white smoke out my pipe that I thought my truck was on fire. After getting my truck home I took off the air hose and looked at the turbo. I can move the turbin around enough that it can touch the wall of the turbo plus there is a lot of oil coming out my pipe. I talked to the boys at Dodge and at PDR and they both tought it was ther turbo. But, I do thank you for you thought .
Thanks
Thanks

Re:Turbocharger Blown
Can't answer your other questions, but a 4" straight pipe will not in anyway hurt the turbo.........

P.S. Sorry to hear of your trouble.

I thought you can rebuild them right? At least that is what I thought. Here is a link that might help. http://www.holset.co.uk/flash/index.html

If the turbo is blown, rebuilding it won't help. If it blew the seal and you can make the impellor or compresor wheel touch the housing, its pooched. :P.
There shouldn't be too much to it. 4 bolts to the exhaust manifold, a clamp for the elbow to the intercooler, the oil inlet line, two bolts on the oil outlet drain and the exhaust clamp. You probably should soak the manifold bolts to the turbo with some kind of penetrating oil for at least 12 hours before the teardown.

Re:Turbocharger Blown
Make certain they also clean and/or repair the air to air, the air filter housing and have them pull the head and the intake. You don't want any stuff destroying the new turbo or the engine.
