Turbo Cool-down Timer

I am in the process of designing and building what I call, a Turbo
Cool-down Timer. I wanted to ping this web sight and see who would be
interested in something like this. I would love to have anyone's feedback,
whether good, bad or indifferent.

This is what it is: I have designed a timer that can be installed into
your trucks, the timer can be set at 2, 4 or 6 minute. It will have a
start button and an LED that will show that the timer has been activated.

This is what it will do: You hit the start button, turn your key off,
take the key out of the ignition, get out and walk away. The truck
will continue to idle, thus allowing your turbo to cool down for the
set time. (Either 2, 4 or 6 minutes.)

The cool down time can be changed if you, the experts, feel the time needs
to be longer or shorter. I have been testing this on my 92 CTD for about 2
weeks.

Before I take this design process any further, I need to find out what interest there is
for this. I need to verify and test it on other year trucks and I need to
fine-tune the components going into the design.

Like I said at the beginning, I need your input. If you love the idea or
hate the idea, I would really like to know.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Re:Turbo Cool-down Timer

I hate to break it to you, but you've reinvented the wheel. Several companies make these, one is called Turbo Life Saver. Now if you can beat 'em on price, I'm interested. Not much worth listening to on the radio, and I get antsy sitting there for 2 or 3 minutes. Making it plug in is a big selling point for most people, I'd say.

Re:Turbo Cool-down Timer

WOW, $239.00. I was thinking I could offer them in the neighborhood of $50 - $60. No bells and whistles, just set the timer lock the truck and go.
Re:Turbo Cool-down Timer

Would be nice if it allows the alarm to be set while the engine is running. If it doesn't then you are right back to waiting on it to time out.

Re:Turbo Cool-down Timer

4x4, thanks for the info. This alarm thing is an issue I need to look into.

I asume you are talking about a security alarm? Is the alarm a standard option or is it an add-on?

What year CTD's have alarms?
Is this a big issue for most of you?
How do you set the alarm?
Is it set by the Keyless entry?

Any info you can give me will help.

Re:Turbo Cool-down Timer

Can you add a feature that kills the system, that you need to reset some feature before the truck will start ???

Re:Turbo Cool-down Timer

Yes security alarm. Mine is aftermarket with motion/tamper sensors and is activated by keyless system. I was thinking about this and thought a relay could be used to disable the tamper sensors until the engine dies. I do know that my system will not activate with the ignition on. so I suppose a relay would be needed to make the alarm system think that the ignition circuit is dead.

A factory Alarm was/is offered for the 98s. I can not comment on them as I have never been exposed to one.

Re:Turbo Cool-down Timer

4X4, my first thought on this was having another timer just like the turbo timer that will turn the alarm on seconds after the engine turns off.
