long story...Are you ready for it ???
Okay, it was a bad day for me from the start. A bunch of boaters here in Ohio were heading to a lake 100 miles from me. I decided to take my jetboat and go.
9:30 am found out jet nozzle cable was busted (deciding to go or not)
9:45 am buddy talks me in to going
10:30am, we are on the way, stopped to get air in trailer tires.
11:00am told buddy I forgot the trailer spare tire. hope we don't need it
12:00 arrive in vicinity of lake. tire looking low, aired up. Buddy left his phone on curb and lost it
1:00 drop boat in and go cruisin
Then it stalls...I listen.... no problem just a loose wire on fuel pump
Try to start it and the starter just a zingin. Check flywheel....all teeth gone on inner 1/2 of flywheel. Apparently starter not engaging all the way for a while now.
3:00 We get pulled in by a dinky bass boat load up the trailer...hang out for a while.
4:00 Time to head home.... Pull out and hear a slight hiss hiss hiss said to buddy "we need to stop and air up again"
drive bout 1 mile and sure enough runnin on rim (tire separated from tread)
Back it into an access drive for telephone boxes
4:30 trying to find place to buy tire on a sunday
5:00 found a place headin back to trailer sittin in drive
5:15 boat on jack...truck parked in front of boat 3 ft away..gettin ready to put tire on
5:20 we hear a squeelin and a bangin and things are flyin everywhere.

A Ford F350 doesn't see the stop sign as he heads north. A minivan heading east comes into view and the truck tries to stop. The 38 foot 10,000 lb cigarette boat pushes his truck right into the mini van. The rig then pushes the van though the intersection through a guardrail into the ditch. Now the truck starts to jackknife to the right and the boat rips the rachet strap from the trailer as it launches off the trailer past the truck. The boat goes down in the ditch, then up the culvert launching in the air slightly as it slams into my truck as it's going by. My truck then jumps back three feet until it hits my boat on the trailer which then falls off the jack and slides on the leaf spring another 3-4 feet.
8:30 pm Get the okay from the troopers to move my truck.
Other vehicles still there.

Total losses
$210,000 boat
$ 35,000 F350
$ 25,000 mini van
$ 15,000 tri axle trailer
$ 6-8,000 damages to my truck

one life (passenger of minivan)
close to one life (driver mini van)

Driver and pass of Ford walk out un harmed

Sounds like some jail time is in order and a healthy civil suit from the victims in the mini-van.

I know he wasn't technically overloaded, but maybe we need to save this thread for the guys who like to brag about towing more than their trucks are rated for.

Yeah, it's not like drivers ever need to make emergency stops or manuevers anywhere other than at a stop sign.

as for the stop sign, I can vouch for him that it is easy to miss and he was not familiar with the area. A guy who lives close by says that he always hears people screeching to a stop after seeing the sign at the last minute.

You don't need anything. This was clearly not your fault, and will be covered under the other person insurance. Insist on factory parts.
