Truck Won't Start After Fuel Filter Change...HELP!
Well, decided to change the fuel filter this weekend following the advice I was given on this board (bumping the starter, etc, etc...).
Installation went fine and did the bumping procedure...went to start it up and it just cranks...will not fire!
What's going on here?
One of the pumps was replaced about six months ago (this is the families truck, not mine!).
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!
Edit - Truck is a 98.5 with the 24-valve ISB. Is the VP-44 the lift pump? How many different pumps are there?
Edit Two - Took the canister back off...it's about half-filled with fuel (with filter element removed). Does this help any?
Edit Three - Tried starting it again ...just cranks, but does not fire. Tell me if I'm wrong here, but isn't the lift pump suppose to run for 2 or 3 seconds and then the injection pump run for about twenty?
Well, the injection pump seems to be doing just great, but when I turn the key over, the truck is silent...no pump noise at all.
So, is the lift pump dead then? Is this the VP-44? How much does it cost?
Sorry for all the writing, but one of you guys out there has to know what is going on!

Here's what you need to do. Get someone in the truck that can turn it over. You get under the hood and while they are turning the truck over, you start to loosen each fuel line one-by-one and this will bleed the air out of the system. Then it should start. But once it starts, tell the person who is in the truck to give it gas and dont let it die.

I just keep the forward brass 1/4 npt plug out of the canister lid and keep cycling the lift pump until fuel starts coming out. Then put the plug in and crank it until it starts. It will always take long enough to freak you out before it fires, but seems to eventually. Hope this helps.

Tried the plug idea...fuel shot straight-up several inches. Put plug back in and tried to start...just cranks, does not fire.
What about the fuel line idea...where do you loosen each fuel line at?
Do this while someone else tries to start truck?
Any other ideas (PLEASE!)?

You might need to crack open (not totally loosen up, a turn or so should do) the injector lines where they connect at the head on a couple of injectors to see if you can get fuel to flow to that point.
Place a rag over the opened injector line as the pressure comming out at that part of the fuel system could be bad ju-ju if it gets in your eyes.
You could let someone crank it for several (30 or so) seconds to see if you get fuel to the head. If yes, cease cranking.
If you get fuel to those, turn the key off, tighten them up. try for restart.
It might take 30 seconds or more of cranking to get it to fire.
I might run rough at first, but will settle down after all the injectors get fuel and start firing.

Update...sorry about not getting back sooner. Was extremely busy today!
Well, following advice, I just cracked the #1 and #2 lines at the valve cover.
Cranked for about thirty seconds (seemed like an eternity!) and fuel finally starting flowing out.
Re-tightened lines and truck runs great!
Thank you for all the help!
