truck shutting down

2000 4x4 auto.
Truck runs fine, then starts losing power and dies. Cycle ignition to off and then restart. Runs fine afterwards. No pattern or particular conditions that seems to cause it. Only code thrown is a 1693 (both computers agreeing that a code was thrown).
Any ideas?

Whats the FP at?

Dirty FF?
I assume you are checking codes by some means other then cycling the key 3 times? If not, try Autozone. They can pull codes for you.

Maybe the VP is falling on its face?

You must remember the CTD has two controllers that are drivetrain related. The dodge JTEC controller and the Cummins Engine Controller. It would be worth your while to have the modules scanned with a good scan tool.

Go to the Tech Facts section and take a look at the APPS reset procedure listed under the 24 valve engine section. I suspect that will fix the problem.
