Last week the transmission was stuck in first gear. I was told to replace the speed sensor on the yoke of the tranny. After replacing it with an after market from Auto Zone, the truck drove fine. Coming home tonight, when i was driving on the highway, the trans started jumping from 4th to overdrive constantly. I pulled over, turned the truck off, and started it back up, it drove fine for about 10 min. till it started back up again but know, it won't go into overdrive and stay. Could this be a bad { new speed sensor }???
Please help, i'm going camping next weekend 8/21, and i need this fixed. 99 dodge ram 2500 diesel

I suggested that you might try the APPS Reset Procedure in your other thread in the 24valve Engine/Drivetrain forum. It won't hurt to try it and it doesn't cost anything. Just a thought until someone else may have an answer.

 

this is a very common issue w/ our trucks...my truck does the same exact thing, one thing that seems to help alot of us is to get a "re-flash" performed on the computer, they download updated software to "help" correct this..after i got this done, it helped greatly. my truck still does it occasionally, especially when i run the A/C, talking to bill k. @ dtt trans. , this issue is often caused by eletrical intereference therefore it is a good idea to clean all electrical connections (especially battery terminals ). Bill k. sells a "noise filter" that may or may not help the issue, i have one but haven't installed it yet so i can't know for sure if it will work. As for pinpointing the issue and resloving it completely, it hasn't been done to date from my understanding. the apps reset, computer re-flash, clean eletrical connections are what we know helps however, their is no guarantee...good luck and i hope u get it under control, i realize this seems like alot just try not to get frustrated w/ it.

 

that's true with the air conditioning, i've been running that the last two days constantly. I'm doing the APPS reset as I'm typing and i'll clean the terminals. It' just seems funny that i had to replace the speed sensor 4 days ago and now this happens.
Also, I installed a device from a company out in Florida that he calls a HAPPI BOX. It hooks in parralel with the throttle control sensor and matches the voltage output out of the computer. If there is a difference, the box will switch the voltage from the module to the Happi box. I was having problems before when the truck used to just hang in third forever before shifting. 2weeks ago I'm going ice fishing and the tc locks up like normal-then suddenly unlocks-then locks,then unlocks-never had a problem with truck B4 but now it won't stay locked.Otherwise shifts perfect;so I start reading and asking questions-dealers,mitchells,internet,etc.My best bets are:APPS,solenoids,computer,wiring,possibly governor pressure,but then find an article in GEARS magazine about 47re trannys which mentions(barely)the TRANSMISSION RELAY!!-It's in the fuse box-I switched it with the relay marked fog lights-BINGO-PROBLEM SOLVED
