Transmission Questions, need info asap...

Hello all and thanks in advance. I have a 2003 2500 , just figured out it is a HO motor. It is an automatic, the glovebox says 4speed auto, but i count four shifts, meaning 5 speeds (or am I counting OD also?) anyhow...

I want to change the trans filter and fluid (drop pan, drain, replace filter and refill).

I need to know:
1) What transmission I have (how to Identify it)
2) What Fluid to use (pretty sure mopar+4)
3) How much fluid to purchase

Thank you again, my email is MisterT_1973 at hotmail dot com,
and my AIM screenname is MisterT1973.

You need ATF+4. It is a 4 speed tranny, including OD. The extra shifts you feel are torque converter lock up in drive and OD. You'll need 7-10 qts. I would recommend buying 3 gallons and keep the other for spare.

They switched from the 47 to the 48 in the middle of the '03 model year. So if yours is an early '03, it's a 47, late it's a 48. Most of the differences are internal. Ask the parts guy at the dealership to give you the readout on your vin. It'll tell exactly what your truck had from the factory.

ok I'll hit the dealership and ask about the vin. The 48is the ideal one to have, correct?

The 48 is a little heavier duty, and rated for more hp/torque.

I believe the HO only came with the 48RE but I could be wrong. I know my 03 HO had the 48RE.
