Transmission Problem????? Temp 210
Well anyways, I was driivng the truck around Saturday for around 15 minutes when I began to accel. from a light. Felt like the transmission slipped into 2nd gear. Then it did happene again.
Since Saturday it hasn't done it. Althought when driving on the way into work I looked at my transmission temp. and it was at 210-220. Normally never goes above 180 and that's towing.
Any ideas. Could I be looking at a transmission issue???

It sounds like a tranny problem to me. What else has changed with your truck? Does it feel like it is slipping still? Under hard acceleration or part throttle? If it keeps running that hot you will wear down your fluid and start wearing seals, bands, and clutches. I would definitely look into it more.

How would I look into it more. I tried a couple of hard accel pulls tonight and it didn't slip, but it does linger that high which I don't like at all. Doesn't slip part throttle either.
Another question. Does the truck come with a 7yr/70k drivetrain warranty. I called Dodge awhile back and they mentioned something about it

Mine has been running those temps since I put a gauge on it, even before any mods. I havent figured out why I have these temps, but I also havent had any issues, where did you install your sensor?

When it was that hot did you happen to stop and check if the dipstick was also hot? Remember if it is actually that hot 210* may burn the fingers . If the dipstick is cool or cold I would look at at the temperature gauge. That happened to me, turned out to be the power module on the ISSPRO. During the trip I had to put a sticky note to cover the gauge after the 5th or 6th time of stipping checking the dipstick .

I smelled the fluid, and it did seem a little funny. The next time I take it out I'll check the dipstick. I did earlier, but didn't pay much mind to the temperature of the dipstick. I don't think it was THAT hot because I did use my hands.
To tell you the truth the temp needle has been jumping around a lot. One second earlier today it was at 160-170 temp range for a bit, I looked away and seconds later it was 190-200 range

Well I have my probe in the transmission line also (hot leg) just like yours. When it happended to me the temperature would also go from 160 to 210 within minutes sometime idling and sometimes driving 55 mph down the highway. The guy at Deiselmanor told me that there is a problem with the ISSPRO's and their power module. My curent ISSPRO gauge started acting up again so I got the Dipro gage at home now. The only thing now is the ISSPRO gauge has been normal since the new gauge came in.

Okay well here is my update.
At work today I asked around and my service manager dug some information up for me.
The stock trans cooler for the 2005 48re has a small thermostat that opens once the engine gets up to operating temperature (of course). Well aparently the thermostat is serviceable and can be removed and checked. Is there a chance that this trans cooler thermostat could not be opening and thus allowing my transmission to overheat?

I would also double check all your gauge wiring. When they put in my heater core, the ground was not properly secured and it raised my tranny temps. I just about FREAKED OUT!!!! Checked the oil level, touched the oil, it was no where near 220, checked all my wiring and it was a bad ground.

I just double checked all the wiring, and I did find a ground that popped right out of the connector when played with. I re-connected that and drove it around for awhile, and it stayed arond 160-170. Then when I got behind my house I gave it a little pedal, and it jumped instantly to 210. What gives, bad gauge???

I would recheck all connections and solder anything that looks marginal. Could be bad gauge or sending unit. I used to work at a job where chasing bad grounds was the norm.
Sounds like a your tranny is ok.
Good luck!!!
